Who makes decent 20" lightbars

Hello friends,

I'm trying to add some aux lighting to my vehicle. To that end I purchased a $50 20" lightbar off amazon. It looks decent, but I measured the current draw it turned out it was pulling 4 amp at 12V which would make it at 48 watt lightbar when the seller advertised it as a 120 watt bar. When I went search on amazon I discovered that it's a common complaint with these cheap bars. A 400 watt lightbar with a 30 amp fuse? No thanks.

Anyway, I spent some time googling and appears that Rigid is the leader in automotive led lighting. When I searched for a combo spot/flood dual 120 watt row bar I found that they sell one for $500. That's 10 times more than the cheap amazon one I bought. Is there something in the middle there you can recommend?

perhaps Im just old school, but the light bars have never appealed to me.

I much prefer round lights.

And if you want some real light, go for the "ARB knock off" lights.
Legit lights, and the pricing has come WAY down.

Much appreciated. I’m with you, there’s something I don’t like about bars but the supposed value proposition sure makes them worth a try.

Check out Kodiak Led lights, they have a 21" double row bar that is crazy bright and very high quality. Seen kodiak bars and pods on my friends truck and they have awesome output and build quality.

Yes, those are them, at least in the 96watt version

There is also a 185watt version

I have a set of these in the mail right now for my superduty with the ARB modular bumper.

Yup, looks identical. Probably made at the same factory?

Im surprised that nobody has measured the wattage on any of these. That would be an immediate indication of how quality they are.

I’ve bought a few different lights from superbrightleds.com and have been impressed. They’ve been around for a long time and offer a great warranty. My Rigids are nicer. I have a 40” superbrightleds that was around 200$ that is very nice.

Edit: I’ve never measured lumens or amp draw.

i had uni-bonds for a while.rarely used them so i switched to hella driving lights.way better for road travel.i still use the uni-bonds as rear floods.i'd get the rigids if i were desert racing,but for that $ id be able to but half a dozen cheaper cree lights.some say osrams perform better than cree.but my eyes are old.

if you want a good bar its not cheap. but you can get some cheap bars that arnt bad, just not awesome.
Check out Baja Design lights. mostly made in the USA, lifetime warranty, changeable lenses.
I have a mixture of BD lights and those 9" ones above (i will say those 9" ones are awesome too lol)

Here's my 2c. A $50 lightbar is probably going to be crap. When it comes to auxiliary lighting, there is a big different between the bottom of the barrel and the midrange lights, in terms of light output, range, and spread. ...not to mention build quality. With all of that said, there is probably not a need to spend $500, either.

I've got a 12in Auxbeam X-Series on my Exploder, and I'm quite happy with it. It is also available in a 22 inch size. It's configurable for spot or flood use and has the capacity for colored filters, it is quite bright, and it throws light a good distance. Given the 22 inch model is a bit under $100, I'd say it's not a bad deal.

My only gripe is that the front glass isn't actually glass, it's thick perspex. So, it would be susceptible to rock chips or scratches; If you are mounting it at bumper height, you may want to use a set of clear filters to protect it.
