I use the Eagles Nest Outfitters double wide hammock, bug net and Kelty Noah's Tarp when back packing, canoeing, kayaking or camping off the atv.. Super packable and lightweight.. I do find you get a better nights sleep, especially in the spring and fall, if you throw in a therma rest for a base... Gives a little more sleeping support and added warmth.

I highly recommend getting the slap strap tree straps... They provide a speedy set up and adjustable up to a 20ft span between hitch points.. Tents are great for winter camping, but the one of these hammocks is the only way to go the rest of the year!

I've spent nights out in driving rain, and 75km winds dry and warm...

Highly Recommend!

It looks interesting. Ive never thought about camping in a hammock. Ive always had a hammock at camp, just never used it as a means to sleep.

The secret is a Brazilian hammock. Twist them up, light and portable and not a lot of space taken up (about the size of a large Nalgene). Super high quality, comfy. Takes 1-2 sleeps to get used to it then you're good to go almost for life...

Some rando pics stolen off the Internet. How they cruise up the Amazon. It takes a couple days sometimes as the river is so long (longest river in the world)... Nice, light, cheap, super comfortable, & authentic...

You might be right but they are within 100 miles of each other and I think it's still "up for debate" if I remember correctly...

I've slept in a Hammock in the mountains a couple of times and it gets very cold, I also dont like that you cant roll over or sleep on your side. It might have been my hammock but I wouldnt recomend one unless its a warm night and you don't move around much in your sleep.

Hennesey hammocks

Mines in this picture somewhere....not borrowed from the web.....

PS it took me 7 days from Puerto velho down to Manaus,

it takes longer going the other way- up to the Colombian - Peruvian or Bolivian border it could take three to four week easily

The boats stops when it rains- it stops at least twice a day to drop off or load goods and animals- it stops when the captain can't see anything, it stops when it runs aground, it stops when it runs out of fuel, it stops when the captain see's a buddy captain etc etc etc

Time table....hah you just have to go with the flow

The built in mozy net and cover means you sleep without being eaten, change your clothes in peace, and keeps everything dry when it rains horizontally.

getting in from underneath too is easeir.

Buy the bigger models if your not worrying about a few ounces, the bigger the hammock the flatter you sleep, as you lie diagonally across it, and you can lie on your side, even face down.

The ones the locals use breath better in the heat, but the nights are pretty cool on the river and the mosy's don't effect locals, ie a well perforated hammock means a well perforated behind

I have never had a hammock and used a ENO Single nest this summer for hangin' around during the day, it did cost me a day of wheelin' one trip. This camping season we will have two ENO Singlenest hammocks complete with tree staps..........

I sleep in a Tent at night BTW..........

Ill always have a tent with us, too.

Probably use it over the hammock too. I dont think my son would get a good nights sleep in a hammock next to me!!
