Wife wants to know...

So I was considering an LR3 for my next expo project after my jeep sold but have decided I want to do something different with the cash (building a cabin on our land in CO) however my wife let me know she has always wanted a Range Rover and asked if she could trade in her Grand Cherokee for a Range Rover. I told her we can do that and we are looking at model years between 2010-2012 and she said she has to have white lol. Aside from that I'm not sure what to look for in these vehicles? I have been trying to educate myself on rangerovers.net but thought I would get some info from you guys and gals. The vehicle would be her daily driver and cross country family road trips. Minimal off road until I can talk her into it ha ha.

2009 forward are dialed in. You will have little issues. 2009(last of that body style- front lights) and 2010 (first of the slimmer lights) can be had a decent price.

Supercharged is an extra bonus but not necessary. HSE LUX is a big bonus in my book. The heated and air-conditioned seats are pretty sweet.

My wife loves her white RRS HSE LUX. And I think all women do. Show her the Sport and you'll have no chance of going back to the full size.

I had the opposite experience :). My wife loves her full size.

Same here. While I love the Sport myself, it doesn't have near the roominess of the big body. I think part of it is the center console is at elbow height so some of it may be psychosomatic. :)
But my wife much prefers the big body.

Thanks for the feed back!
Well we stopped in the Albuquerque Land Rover dealer today to have a look around. We explained to the salesmen the we did not want to spend 100+ thousand on a new RR but wanted some thing used. He understood and seemed like he wanted to help us. We were first shown a really nice RRS super charged which we both liked be did not see a huge space increase to our Grand Cherokee. They did not have any used RR but was able to show us one that was in the shop for service. Right away we both knew that's what we wanted/needed. It was a 2012 supercharged, beautiful vehicle. He took our info and said he would call if they take one in on trade. Looking on line there seems to be plenty out there just none local right now.
Question,
What would be more important if at our price range, model year or mileage? Example would be a 2010 with 40k miles or a 2012 with 55k miles. I lean toward the model year vs the milage if the mileage is not much diffrent say 10-15k more. What do you guys think? Then the same question could be said about the supercharged or not. If a supercharged model could be had for the same price as a HSE but may have a few more miles, is it worth it?

Dendy,

I agree. I was shocked how much larger the full size range feels. Then to see the actual measurements are almost negligible (interior)... It does feel so much larger though.

Seems like you have decided on full size but I'll chime in and say if you're looking for more interior room than a wk2 grand Cherokee you definitely will not get it in a sport and the full size will probably be comparable, not sure about bigger. I'm talking pre MY 2013 full size and pre 2014 sports.
My wife absolutely loves her sport and I do too but if we had it to do over I would have probably gotten a full size even though they are more expensive. It's way more vehicle all around. WAY nicer interior too.

I would be more concerned with maintenance records and vehicle history over mileage or model year . These newer rovers are fabulous vehicles and light years ahead of older models in terms of reliability, but still nice piece of mind knowing how previous owner(s) treated/maintained them. Good luck with the search

Same here, my wife only wanted the full size and white. Navy leather inside was a wish and we found one!!

We drove both HSE and Supercharged 08 Range Rovers (never drove a 2010+), and we found little discernable difference in performance. For us, the HSE Lux was comparable to the Supercharged for less money.

As for year and mileage, I think it is a sliding scale and it somewhat depends on how many miles you drive and how long you plan to keep it. My wife does not drive many miles, so for her I always opt for later model years with higher mileage. The newer it is, the less age related body issues you have (seals going bad, plastic bits breaking, seats squeaking, etc). The engines will run a long time, so as long as the maintenance was done (records are nice to have), I do not fear mileage as much as age myself.

However, if you are really going to put miles on it, there is an argument for an older one with lower miles. Older vehicles with low mileage also tend to be the ones that have been well cared for...
