winch boat onto roof rack?

I have searched and could not find anything pertaining to this topic.

I have a 12' jon boat that I would like to winch onto the roof rack of my truck.

Truck is a tacoma with arb bumper and warn winch with steel cable and roller fairlead.

i am thinking of mounting a pulley on the top bar of the arb bullbar, maybe something like this: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/RO... Rigging-_-4FRV2&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=4FRV2

and perhaps another pulley toward the front of the cab.
I have 3 roof rack bars in the locations noted on the truck.

Will the angle of the pull be too harsh for the cable/fairlead/winch?
The boat only weights about 150lbs but is too much for my wife to lift over the truck, and too much for me to do alone...

It's pretty common in Europe to put a roller at the back edge of a roof rack to facilitate loading and unloading of longer/heavier items. Something similar oughta work well for a small hull.

It can be done...give it a shot...

There is also a gadget called "ez-loader" or something..that pretty much does the same...bit it is PRICEY!

You may find standing on a folding stool, with some rollers on the rack, give the boat a boost...may be the easiest...

I think the pully over the cab would be needed just to clear the cab. Also the roller on the back would be a great idea. As long as you have a winch remote lunch enough to allow you to be at the back helping guide the boat up it should work. Besides the boat possibly sliding around, you probably having to help it start and making sure you got the room for it, it should go. Take a video!

Angle of pull should be fine, I would think. Remember, running a line thru a snatch block is a much more severe angle, albeit on a roller.

A long time ago, I remember seeing a guy loading a deer into the back of his pickup by positioning the deer at the bottom of a ramp which was affixed to the bed. He then attached a line from the antlers, threw it over the cab of the truck to the front, and then staked the line down right in front of the truck. Then he jumped in and drove forward. The effect of running over the line pulled that deer right up the ramp and into the back of the truck, slick as snot.

Didn't seem to hurt the cab too bad. I always thought that was pretty clever...
