Winch @ Costco (Canada)

This is a good deal, IMO. I wish I had a heavier vehicle with front and rear receivers.

It falls in the smittybilt, harbor freight and other chinese winch made in the last 5-10 years. Some have great succes, some don't.

But with the costco garantie it is hard to beat the price, but component are not as beefe as warn or other higher brand.

But you see a lot of them out there.

May be a great winch, maybe not. If it fails while still fairly newish, Costco is good about returns. The problem will likely come down the road, if something breaks when it is a few years old. It's from China, and the likelihood of finding parts in five years may be pretty slim. I have a $400 Chinese hydraulic jack that was the cat's pajamas when it was new around 15 years ago. Now it needs some parts and nobody knows where to find them. Can probably use parts from some other jack, but that burns shop time looking through bins for a match, if the parts supplier is even willing to do that. My $400 jack is an expensive anchor.

Better buy two. They won't sell them forever but can always return them anytime.

Ducky, have you tried hcrcnow.com for jack parts? I just rebuilt an old jack myself using parts from them.

My friend has one on his Fuso Camper. He told told me that he used it several times this summer without complains.

I would think it would last forever just because it's not living on a bumper, exposed to the elements.

Those guys are only about 20 miles from me, so I'm pretty sure I called them when I was looking. Part of the problem is that I have no parts list, no part numbers, and nothing they can reference. It's just a matter of tearing the jack down and taking the bad parts into the shop and digging around for a match. All the jack places told me that the chances were that I could find a match, but they didn't want me digging through their new parts inventory. They would be happy to have one of their guys look for matches, but if it's anything other than a seal, they want to charge for the time, with no promise of success. So, I bought a Napa jack off CraigsList. Still Chinese, but the likelihood of finding parts is much better. Turns out even the Milwaukee jacks are from China now, and some of the Snap-On stuff is coming from China.

I had a giant old Lincoln jack, made in the USA, but some dirtbag stole it. That's why I bought the expensive Chinese jack in the first place. The specialty pro tool supply that sold it to me went out of business, and there went my link to replacement parts.

I worked with a guy that bought a Costco winch, albeit for his quad, but I'll still use the example. He installed it, used it and it broke; so he took it back and exchanged it. After a few rounds of this, he ponied up the cash and bought a real winch. I seem to recall it being a Champion brand too.

Also, I just rebuilt a Warn M8000 for my truck. It has to be 20+ years old, and the (few) parts that I needed were readily available.

And to add a little more just to make this a little more confusing, we got save once by a champion winch.

My warn HS9500i decided it was time to change one of it selenoid will in a hole, my friend warn 8274 was still down cause the part he needed to fix it only came with a parts assembly that was pretty darn expensive.

So the only working winch was a few years old champion 8000 lbs winch.

Since then, I have change more selenoid, was able to fit some motor brushes from a different warn winch cause they were not available for my 98 hs9500i but the same motor is still used in most or their winch.

I decided to go with an other warn winch for the back of my jeep, an 8000 vr.

About costco, even if warranty is gone, they have shops that they will refer you to is something need fixing. Now will parts bw available, questions.

For all remaining, some got succes with champion winch, others, not as much.

It's a nice touch that it comes with Anderson Connectors. I don't personally want to take extra chances if alone in the boonies of break something. It is what it is though, so I'm not bashing it.

I've had a few of these winches in the past .costo does have a great return policy but that doesn't help get your truck out of the woods.it like playing Russian roulette using those champion winches.

How did they fail?

I have heard about remote just not working, selenoid ans motor.

I once saw a comparo picture between gear, and the champion gears were way thinner than warn's.

But like i've said before, had to change selenoid on my warn before.
