FYI, if you've got any direct questions about WARN product, feel free to ask me or PM me if you'd rather.

Regarding your application, you might want to check out a refurbished WARN M12000—it's be less than a brand new one. Our refurb winches carry the same warranty as a new winch, too.

I wouldn't hesitate putting a 10000lb winch on my Dodge. It is under 8000lbs fully loaded. Even with the 39s, topper, diesel, etc....its 6800lbs.

Generally, recovery isn't a race. Honestly some of the new fast winches are almost dangerous for the novice. You can always double line to get more pull.

If your stalling a 10K winch double lined....get out the shovel and dig more.

Most of the new synthetic lines last a LONG time and take A LOT of abuse before they fail. Try and not run it over sharp edges without protection, especially when doubled, since both lines are moving. One of the big bonuses, in my opinion, is that you CAN splice it in the field if you need to. Not to mention the safety aspect!

The 10K Smittybilt is $385 on amazon. Then buy some good quality synthetic line when you can, and you have the steel cable as backup/extra if you really want it.

I read about a guy on cumminsforum.com that claimed to have a hummer hydraulic winch on his 1st gen. I couldn't find anymore info on that but that seems like it would be a solution. Hydraulics are pretty simple, and I would guess that a pump would be able to be added to the 5.9 but like I said, I couldn't find anymore info.

Some pretty good prices on Warn refurb's. I wouldn't hesitate to get a refurb. They've probably been checked out better than a new one.

When I was recently in the market and sleuthing through all of the options out there trying to decide on capacity I learned a lot from the seemingly non-bias and very informative "Winch Facts" section on the Titan Winches page.

This stuff is all basic physics and common sense, but it is nice to read it in a concise no BS summary.
Keep in mind you have about the lightest factory cummins out there with a 1st gen. single cab vs my 2nd gen. quad cab with a Four Wheel camper. But, what made me question a 10k, or even 12k, was not only the 'twice your vehicle weight' ROT but also the terrain I frequent. I knew that mud and inclines would be the situations I would be using the winch and went with the most capacity I could afford. I opted to not worry about capacity when I was stuck and trying to drag the heavy beast up a mud laden incline to get to where the grass is always greener! Hope this helps....:coffeedrink:

Andy, thank you for your reply!

I have no experience purchasing winches, as those few I have owned came already mounted to vehicles I aquired, so please forgive my newby questions. Do Warn winches come with all the mounting bolts, wiring etc neccessary to install the winch? What guage wiring is used to supply power from the battery to the winch?

How do the Warn 33000 red snatch blocks perform as compared to the others offered? I like the design better than the snatch blocks with the flat "clam shell" appearance. Also, do these larger red versions accomodate a wider variety of winch cable/rope thicknesses than some of the lesser rated snatch blocks?

Yes we supply the needed hardware and 2 gauge wire to the battery.

With regards to snatchblocks, we've been offering snatchblocks for a long time, and ors are very solid. The larger capacity block can accommodate up to a 7/16" cable. The smaller will do 5/16".
