Wireless Internet - MacBook

I have a MacBook and am hoping someone could tell me how to set it up for a wireless internet connection. I'll be "on the road" for 6 months (APR-SEP) and it would be SOOOO nice to stay connected via the internet.

Is it possible? Ideas? Suggestions? If I go to an Apple store when I get back to Florida in March (no Apple store near me at the moment...in Alaska), I'm guessing they could hook me up with what I'll need?

The type of wireless internet you need depends on where you will be when you want to connect. If you are in wi-fi area, the Macbook should already be setup. If you are in cellular range, an EVDO card from a carrier like Verizon would be ideal. If you are in the middle of nowhere, then we will have to start discussing other options.

Yes, I have an air card thing built in...but what good is that if I don't have the password for whatever internet signal I'm picking up?

I think maybe the EVDO card would be best. Not that I'll always be in cellular range...but then again, I won't always want to get on the internet. Should I just contact Verizon for this and tell them the kind of computer I have. How fast is it? How expensive is it?

Find free WIFI cafe - open Macbook - hit any bookmark in Safari - accept the terms - enjoy the connection.

Payfor ATT - Tmobile hot spot Wifi (Starbucks) to use - Open MacBook hit any bookmark page in Safari - takes you to your paid service login page - Once you input your username & password "Keychain" will save your info for the next time login - then your connected.

There are many free wifi spots on the road

Correct, if you locate a free wi-fi connection, Macbook will do most of the thinking for you.

A really good place to get free wi-fi in most towns and cities will be the public library.

Nice tip about the public libraries having free wi-fi. Wonder if there's a website with a listing of all the libraries in America and their addresses. That would make things SO easy. :) I'll have to check into that because it sure beats paying.

I have a MacBook Pro and use Airport. I am on the road a lot. The public library is a good tip. Also most truck stops have WiFi networks that are free. It is not hard to pick up mail, etc.

I usually pick-up mail and process off-line. Then at the next connection send all e-mail and pick up the recent messages. I also have an 800 number service that forwards all missed calls to me via e-mail if it cannot reach me on my cell.

I use that quite a bit. I print off the locations where I'm going before leaving the house and refer to them on the road.
