WKexpedition's Build/Adventure Thread

With our big camping trip to south Colorado coming up at the end of July, I decided to give the WK some love. I purchased a 75wxst CB/weather radio, firestick coax and 3 foot antenna, along with a quick release and spring mount. I also purchased a steel armadillo antenna mount and a secure counsel for my concealed carry 380. next week ill be changing the oil, rotating the tires, and installing my cargo bay shelf. I have already got the CB to 1.7 on channel 1 and 40, but that was with a lot of tree interference. when I go out to Akron at the end of June ill get it dialed in.

Hey everyone, been a long time since I have been on here. I have been having a great summer with some real fun trips, including a camping trip in southern Colorado for my first year anniversary with my amazing wife. ill try to pick-up where I left off.
After installing the new CB mount I decided to take a trip to Akron to tune it. It was the 3rd annual Akron car show, which is becoming a really nice show with a pretty good turn out.

Out at the farm that night I decided to set up the jeep to sleep in it. I have tried a couple different padding options and I think I finally found the winner.

Love it out here!!

The next day I tuned my CB, I was able to get it to 1.6 on both channel 1 and 40. It still does not have great reception but it works for now. After having this set up for a couple trips, I think I am going to remove the quick release to see if I can get a better tune. of course I had to take a couple pics while I was tuning the antenna.

After the trip out east, I decided to head up to the mountains for some hiking and fishing and cooler weather. Was a great weekend with the bro, that was in town on break from West Point, always great getting time with him!!

haha, what a goof!

Thanks a lot! I love the wk. perfect platform for what I need. ... Pics on the big trip coming up, just need to finish uploading them.

And now, onto the main summer event. For our first year anniversary my amazing wife and i took a trip to southern Colorado. The trip was wonderful, and helped me appreciate this wonderful state even more.*

Day 1 & 2: Great Sand Dunes National Park

We headed out early from centennial Colorado. We were on a bit of a time crunch because the first camp site was first come first serve. We made good time but did very little picture taking. Weather was great though!!

Here is a pick of the wk all loaded up. I was very happy with this set up. Could access the fridge and see out the back. Worked great for the whole trip.*

We made pretty good time and were able to get a spot although not the greatest. Still was amazing. our tent was the impressive Marmot limelight 3p. Great tent!! The weather and scenery were great. But words can't describe, so I won't try. Ha

Wife had the great idea to use the rear floor mats for the tent entrance. She is so smart!! :)

Day 2:
Since it was Sunday and we were staying at the park till Monday we decided to scout out some of our favorite camp sites to see if they opened up. We got lucky, the best one we could find opened up. Way better than our first spot!!

After breakfast we decided we wanted to hike to the top of the sand dunes. Going up is hard but boy, coming down is a blast. I would say it took about 2 and a half hours to get to the top and about 45 minutes to get down. Good thing too cause some pretty dark clouds were rolling in.

Me pretty tired but almost to the top.

After our quick trip down we decided to do a little 4 wheeling. I had never driven on sand before so was a little nervous at first but once we started I did not want to stop. Sand driving is a blast!! Love keeping your speed up and just floating over the ground. We aired down to 20 psi.

We decided to drive Medano pass and got some great pics.

Day 3 and 4:
After enjoying breakfast we packed up camp and headed off. Next stop Telluride.
Couple pics before we headed out.

This was our first time to Telluride, and we both loved it!! Plus it was pretty much truck heaven, everywhere you looked there was another awesome looking truck. Since it was our anniversary trip we decided to get a hotel room while in town which was really nice. It was at the ski resort up on the mountain so you had to take the gondola into town which was a lot of fun.

Day 5 and 6:

We headed out from telluride and on our way to Macos state park. It was a really nice park but we wished the lake was fuller. The fishing was pathetic but it was still nice to hike around. We also got a chance to try out our new hammock, which was awesome!!

So this more or less was our trip. It was a great trip and we can't wait to plan another one. I know it's not quite as adventurous as some members on here; and I know the write up is not as detailed as most. But you have to start somewhere. Ha. Hope you guys enjoyed!! Travel safe!
