Long time lurker, 1st time posting. Spend a lot of time here dreaming and wishing.
I'm not ready, but opportunity is knocking.
Would a Flippac from a standard cab Ford Ranger, fit a 2nd gen access cab Tacoma ?

Welcome!

I honestly don't know, but user BillyBee posted up a bedsize chart over on a for sale thread. The only reason I remember the chart is because I bought the particular Flippac in the thread with the chart.

Link to the post I'm thinking about.

So it looks like:

---------------------------------------length------width
SB--Ranger
93-11---------------------------------75 1/4"------61 1/2"
83-92---------------------------------74 3/4"------59 1/2"

There are a whole bunch of Toyota models, it might be easier just to measure yours than relying on the chart.

Assuming they are still in business, why not contact Flippac and ask?

Yeah, that plays into the other issue, getting parts.
The Flippac I'm looking at has a broken torsion bar. So I'm reading up on that thread.

Broken torsion bar? Hopefully you could talk the seller down to a very good price.

I'd figure you should check the hinges to make sure that there isn't / wasn't extra stress placed on them. Or more importantly where they mount to.

Check with the top flipped & check for play/cracks. Climb up inside & check the same.

If you buy it, skip getting a replacement bar & jump rite to the torsion bar delete. Less stress on older fiberglass & parts, no worries about a failure in the future ruining a trip.

Tacoma beds are about 2 inches longer than Ford beds. I have a Ford Ranger designed cap on my truck right now and it's annoyingly short in length. Also, the "newer" Tacoma beds are not that far off from the older ones but the cap would look kinda small compared to the cab.

I would vote no go. You'll never get it sealed up nicely.

There are dozens of pickup bed configurations, and it bugs me that Craigslist ads often say things like "fits a regular 6' pickup bed." You really need to know the inside dimensions (LxW) of your bed and then compare it to whatever is for sale.

Even when I ordered a new Flippac, they wouldn't take my word for it and made sure to measure my truck while it was there.

The length is critical to making the tailgate seal. The width is a little bit negotiable - you can cut down the inside rails of a Flippac or add a piece of Trex wood on each side if you need to buy an inch or so.
