A typical 20' shipping container weighs just a tad over 5000 pounds dry. Good as a basis for a micro home but not so good for a RTW camper. As far as buying a regular fridge at a big box store for $300 and buying an Engel, National Luna or ARB fridge for $1000 (which is 1/10th the size), the market for a fridge is every household in every country on the planet, the market for a 12 volt "expo" fridge is less than 1/10th of 1 % of the same population. Economy of scale rules. You cannot make that kind of comparison because it really isn't the same. Decades ago I priced out a small home in the hopes of saving some hard earned coin. It turns out that there are just as many walls, doors and windows in a 1000 sq' home as a 2000 sq' home and the larger home was only 20% more to build. The general rule is, if it could be done cheaper (without buying crap) it would be on the market because it abhors a vacumn.

You can get the ex military communications containers. Light weight and well insulated but still fit ISO standard mounting. We were considering the Gitchner (probably spelt wrong) ones for the back of the M 1078.

Have you considered a Morgan Cargo Body?
There's a whole industry built around their manufacture, service and repair. Morgan has their own team of engineers that will answer any questions you might have. They will ship without a rear door installed. The body mounting will be done by the dealer that sells it. Its worth a trip there just to see how one is put together. Often they have used units that they would be more than happy to sell-off.
Some consider the leading edges and the front radius corners a weak point, but their replaceable.

That is a pretty nice build! Anyone know where their build thread is here on the forum?
Facebook is the only link I know off. The build has a 'Tiny House' feel to it.
TruckConversion.net also has some Cargo Body builds.

Now a 20ft aluminium shipping container is to big and tall but if it was cut down and wielded back together to about 13ft long and 6.5 ft high it would be about 900kgs befor cutting out windows and doors so could be lighter. The outer frame would handel impacts with trees well to with out the need for extra protective bars
