Wrangler for a ram mega cab?

Debating trading my 08 Wrangler JKUR (bought new) for a used ram 2500 diesel. At this point our resale/trade value of the jeep is still nearly what I paid for it, and with a growing family I've been thinking of cashing the value out of it (its been paid off for some time) while its worthwhile. I figure my mileage will be about the same, with more space towing etc. Curious if anyone had experience with both to comment. We almost bought one outright recently, but ended up with an 08 grand cherokee CRD instead, as the truck was bigger than my wife wanted.

Thanks,

Thanks,

I did the same thing. Jeeps are fairly useless in my area. Can't tow/haul. Stink in the kind of snow we see (compared to a fullsize). And 4 wheelers and our motorcycles have made any offroad advantage the Jeep had, completely obsolete.

If your not in the snow belt, go for it. Get the biggest cab and bed you can. Wheelbase issues rarely effect my travel. If you are in the snow belt, or really don't need the diesel, then get a Ford Superduty gasser.

I really don't thing fuel mileage is a rational argument worth comparing. All expo worthy vehicles are going to cost you.

Is it a crew cab or mega cab? A diesel mega cab was of $50k new. I wouldn't think twice about trading. Never been much of a Jeep fan. I have owned two Dodge diesels, a 2004 and a 2005.

I have both a JKUR and a Quadcab Dodge diesel. I would have a hard time picking between them as a dd, but the utility of a truck would likely win. What year Dodge?

I'm also not sure why all the diesel threads seem to get sidelined in order to have a gas Ford or GM? Some people like diesel.

Maybe where you live Jeeps may be obsoleted. Out here, as the treehuggers and the Feds impose more and more regulations to keep us off the public lands, you see these signs going up. But I can still drive my Jeep!
Of course, I suppose before long those signs may have Jeeps on them also!

Even though I'm partial to Wranglers and am biased against Dodges, I'd run with the Dodge for the reason you said.

I've loved a cc/sb Duramax and a TJ. Both were great, but the truck wins hands down for utility and even had better highway mileage.

Jeep vs truck is an age old discussion in my house going back before my birth. The truck has so much utility and can go 90% of the places of a jeep. But a jeep has a cool factor and can go the extra places.

My dad has been jeep all the way I finally had to break and just own both plus quads.
