Wrangler YJ Windscreen -> Roll Hoop bolt size/thread

Hiya folks.

I've recently bought myself an uncessesary jeep (*) and am going through that well known process of repairing everything previous owners didn't!

In this case, they have lost the bolt securing the back of the roll bar post that goes along the top of the door between the main hoop and the windscreen.

I don't suppose anyone knows what thread/length/spec is of this bolt do they? I'd rather like to replace it...

(*) = Because everyone should own a car that consists of little more than seats, wheels and an engine at some point in their lives. Real car's don't need roofs or A/C or...

Hi, congrats on your new life addiction. Who needs those unnecessary luxury features anyways?

In regards to the bolt, I'd scour some junkyards and nag one from there, that way you know it'll fit. I don't have a YJ I'm not sure what size it would be, but the Jeep and Wrangler forums are also great places to find technical stuff like that.

Adventures are ment to leave you deaf, sunburnt and with backache - but giggling like an unsupervised six year old at a birthday party, right?

The catch with this plan is i'm UK based.

Not so many wranglers around here. Even the online forum is a bit of a ghost town!

So i thought I would ask on Expo, partly because I am already registered here and partly as part of the idea was to encourage me to go out on adventures more often so I was thinking getting more active might help build some keen...

If nobody does have the specs handy it's ok - i'm sure I can figure it out.

I tried to remove the bolt but it's a tamper proof torx with the pin. I have a hard top on but I tried measuring the head. I'm guessing it's probably a 10mm Pan Head bolt. It threads into some blind threads inside the tube so I would think 16-25mm long should work. If I can find a tamper proof torx bit, I'll remove it and actually measure it.

It threads into some blind threads inside the tube so I would think 16-25mm long should work. If I can find a tamper proof torx bit, I'll remove it and actually measure it.

Is it the ine on top of the bar or the one behind tje main roll bar. The one behind is not tamper proof and to my knowledge is bigger. That is the one you shoud remove next time if you wnat to remove or lower the windsheild. The top one is kind of the lenght adjustment. If you remove the windsheil bolt x3 you should have acces to the stub tub coming out of the main roll bar and will have a better chance at mesuring the tread and bolt size. At the time, I had use a small punch and a hammer to break the pin in the tamper prrof bolt, making it a regular torx bolt.

It's a trickier one than i would like it to be, certainly.
I'm not to worried about the head, and to a lesser extent the length - the main thing I am curious about is what thread is in there?
Once I know the thread, I can source something that will go in the hole.

Have you considered removing the one ont the opposite side of the vehicle and measuring it?
