Sorry if this is the wrong place to post. Not sure where best this goes :)

I'm looking for an ambulance that works as, or I can make into a surf rig for baja. 4x4 or even 4x2. I'm on a budget and in process is ok... Let me know if you see anything interesting. Thanks!

It might be helpful to know what that budget is so folks don't waste time posting stuff that's too far out of it.

Thank you all, I forgot to mention that I'd like one with a box, not just a van, the class 3 I think :). My max budget is probably 25k if it fits my needs and is ready to go-ish. I'm in Southern California, but I could fly and drive anywhere to pick something up.

Thanks for the insight. 4x2 isn't a deal breaker for me. I've heard about some problems with Quigley suspension setups, and I know that ujoint is the best out there. I don't know a whole lot about axles, or what the difference is between a Dana 60 and 70 is.. I'll mostly be staying "all road" and don't need something super high tech.

Take your time to look around and educate yourself on the ambulances.
Do a search here for where either people bought them or the modifications that the did.
You should be able to buy what you need plus modify it well within your budget.
Good luck.

If you're intending to stick to the road it's a different story and the Quigley will likely do you fine. I hear they tend to suffer from some ride/handling issues, but they're also fixable for a very reasonable cost.

Actually off road isnt out of the question, it just wouldn't be in the same league as a ujoint unit, but if the price is right and it fits your intended usage go for it.

My opinion is that Quigley is a good rough road system - for better or for worse it's the gold standard for fire/ambulance/rescue with minimal lift and tire changes. If you want to spend the $$ and get a real trail rig, my money would be on Ujoint.

All depends on what your intended use and budget is. If budget isn't an issue, then Ujoint is the best choice. If budget is paramount then hard to go wrong with an ex-ambulance Quigley.
