WTB: First Gen 4runner

I am looking for an 85-89 FIRST generation 4runner in good shape. Stock is preferred, but may be interested in modified trucks. I am wanting to make a budget level, RELIABLE, expedition vehicle for trips into RURAL Mexico and Central America. Reliability is key!

What I want: 22RE, 5spd, and preferably SR5.

If its running, I'll pay up to 3,000 if its in good shape, good tires, and lower miles.

I'd be really interested in a non running truck, because I'd like to swap a new motor into it. A non runner I'd be willing to pay up to $1200.

I live in Denton, TX on the north side of Dallas /Fort Worth.

I have two for sale in Denver.

One's an '85 with a hole in the block, but otherwise in good shape. Auto, 22RE w/ a cam, unmolested except a few added gauges, clean title.

The other is an '86, 22RE, 5spd, salvage title because of a hit to the passenger front, high miles, and needs a head gasket, completely stock.

PM if you want more info about either.

I saw your for sale thread on Mud or craigslist or somewhere. I'd be interested except I couldnt get 2 non running trucks back that far...

The 85 is preferable as it has solid axles front and rear-86 went to IFS. That often raises the price of 85's. I've seen some very nice 1st gen 4R rigs I especialley like the ones that use a canvas top with roll up sides in place of the fiberglass top.

Yep. I'd prefer the 85 with a SFA... but IFS has its perks too. I dont intend to do any rock crawling, but I want to be able to go where I want to, within reason.:costumed-smiley-007

I actually had an 85, my first vehicle, and want another!

The '86 runs. It'd just take you a looooong time to get home.

No one has a diesel and a gooseneck by your place?

A buddy back home, yes. But I already asked him to take 2 days out of his life last year to drive to Kentucky with me to get a CRAP FJ40. Dont want to ask that of him again... Although, the drive to Denver would be a better.....
