I have a Canon EF 100mm-300mm 1:4.5-5.6 USM Ultrasonic lens with a bad motor.. it won't auto focus. Even on manual my camera won't save the photo, it keeps throwing an error. The lens is in perfect shape and there's no scratches on either end. It's not worth it for me to send it to Canon to have repaired.

Does anyone have anything they want to trade for it?

David, I have a HELLA Matador on the AT already... hmm maybe i could add 2 to the cruiser :D

Let me give it some thought about what i'd use em for and i'll get back to you.

If you do not find a good trade, what would you want to sell it for?

Well lowest i've seen for the lens is $75.00 and the highest i've seen is $350.00. Both are used in perfect condition (and work).. so you tell me?

Yeah, but i heard it will cost $300 to repair it...... it's not worth it to me. What do you think it would cost to fix the motor?

There's got to be a way to bypass the error codes you're getting and just use it manually. Time to hit Google.

I wonder if you can tape off the contacts and make it work that way (fully manual).

hmmm i dont know, i didn't search on google to see. Might have to right now. We're using it on a consumer XTI so i don't know, im thinking it may work fine on a prosumer D model.

I phoned Cannon and your quote seems to be in line for a lens that is out of warranty and demonstrating the condition you are seeing. There are however some independent shops on the web that will give you a flat rate for labor and the pay for parts...WHich may also then add up to $$$$. As you stated, it probably is not worth it for me to buy it and then drop $$$ to have it repaired. Thanks again for responding though....

Cool thanks for calling them, that's what i figured. So if someone has the knowledge to do it on their own then you'll get a deal.

So i guess i'll take the two Matadors if you still want to trade David. I'll pick up shipping on the Lens on my end and you can picking up shipping on your end. Deal?
