WWII spen trailer

I needed a trailer just for hauling and search Craigslist for a month until I came across an old Spen trailer in north Texas. The trailer is a close resemblance of the bantam trailer m100. I had spare brakes from my last build as well as extra tail lights, wiring and tires and rims that I had taken off the H3. I picked up a 5k axle and drums and used the 12” brakes I already had. A little OD green spray paint and raptor liner along with a little spot welding and sanding and she was as good as new. Here are some pics of the build.515358515359515360515362515363515364515365515366515367

I have one of those too, I rebuilt the frame with custom c-channel (3/16", vs. the original 8th inch), and started on the sheet metal before I got stalled. I put white oak sideboards and bolted on the fenders and called it a day.... I really need to finish it up! Yours looks great!

Thanks. It was a fun project to work on. I’m still debating on changing out the Pintel to a max coupler or a lock n roll.

When I rebuilt the frame, I changed the tongue to a receiver hitch tube, so I could switch it to a ball, pintle, max coupler, etc. I really like the flexibility it provides

With 12 inch brakes and a trailer so light are you able to adjust the controller down enough so the wheels are not locking up when braking with the trailer empty?

Yes. No issues with adjusting the brake controller but honestly if I don’t have a load I just adjust the controller to the lowest setting.

Man that looks great. Good job on the welding. Eventually I will work on the frame and extend the

when I get to the point on restoring the frame I will copy your design shamelessly . :)

Hahaha, copy away, I'm honored by the compliment about my welding. Honestly it was my first big project so I was learning to weld as I went!

I'm looking forward to following along with this, you'll have to keep posting about your adventures using the trailer.

Here is a better picture of the trailer behind the H3. Sometime later late this summer I will line it coyote brown.516172

That looks great behind your truck, and will look even better when color matched!

Where did you pick up the long receiver tube on your trailer from? How much did it cost? Also how far out in front of the trailer does it measure out to? Do you have enough room to put a tongue box?

If I remember correctly, I googled it and went with one that had reasonable prices. I want to say metal depot or something....it was shipped to my door. I can't remember the price but it was fairly expensive. If I had to do it again, I'd just go down to the local metal yard and get them to cut me a few pieces. They'd probably drill the hole for the hitch if you asked them to as well.
