Xj pwr windows

Lets just say I'm not a fan of modern conveniences. I have never owned a vehicle with power windows that didn't work as designed during my entire tenure as owner. Sooner or later (usually sooner) one or several of the windows power function quit working. Like on my current 98 XJ passenger side window. I can roll it down "some of the time" about 3 inches. What I would really like to do is remove the Power function and install manual cranks without changing the complete door, requiring the need to paint to match. Any thoughts?

You should be able to just change out the regulator for a manual unit. No need to change the whole door. I have debated doing the same...the XJ power windows...um...suck.

I've swapped over a couple of doors from power to manual, and while it's not hard, it can be a PIA trying to fit your hand in the door to do the work. Just go to the junkyard of your choice to find a donor vehicle for all the parts. Keep in mind you will also need to get a new interior panel. I think you will also need to switch over to manual door locks as well, as I'm not sure any XJ's came with manual windows with power door locks.

FYI - the wires in the jamb of the driver's door is likely broken or frayed. It is a common problem. I'd check that first before going through the work of replacing with manual regulators.

I've had to do it, and someone on here detailed the it with pictures (can't remember who).
