XJ vs WK Expedition Vehicle

Thanks for the continued responses, as far as maintenance on them both the XJ has been more preventative and the WK has been break fix. XJ I did things like replace as many seals as possible to clean up leaks including freeze plugs and water pump. The one problem I did have is my passenger side caliper locked up, but it was only $30 to replace. The WK overall has been a good vehicle for the last 100k I've put on it. It almost left me sitting due to a bad starter that was drawing too much power and killing batteries but I was able to identify the issue and replace the starter. I've also had to replace the ignition switch, headlight stalk, and the EGR valve. Pretty much since day one I've been plagued by the "Service 4wd" message, I don't have 4 low at the moment. I believe I just need to replace my shifter motor on the transfer case, but that is a testament to everyone's point on the simplicity of the XJ.

My WK was in the dealer 4 times for that message after the dumb recall was performed. Had new software programing, wire harness work and two shift motors. It worked for a few weeks before I went to Colorado (was a record) so I thought it was fixed. It failed when I was out there. Luckily the next night I found the FDCM fuse pull patch online to get 4LO for one use. Fed up, I sold that Jeep and bought a Toyota.

It was my experience a new shift motor only worked half a dozen times because as it got used it became more resistant and recall programmed the computer to tighten the resistance values as part of the recall. Chrysler, then FCA were less than helpful.

at 165k I cant say im not impressed with my WK. I will say I haven't beat on it, just DD it everyday and put about 20k a year on it. my 2007 has not had the 4lo issue thank god, but I will say the thing that has plagued it since prob the 100k mark is a front end knock- ill replace a part it will go away(or maybe in my head it does) but it will come back. the front end in these things are honestly crap.... at 160k I threw an OME kit on it to get rid of the worn out OEM springs and that hasn't helped the front end much, but at this point its whatever. if this thing ends up needing a new steering rack, ill prob end up ditching it. I do miss my XJ- thing was always reliable, plenty of room and fun to drive lifted. plus, with the XJ I never ran out of mods I wanted to do, there was always something on the list. with the WK, im just waiting for things to need replaced/break. lol
