My guess (and this is purely a guess as I'm running stock right now) is that this is done to actually drop the front IFS down instead of using the pucks that come with a normal lift. This allows for greater overall articulation, which gets limited with the normal lifts that folks do.

Plus I think it's a scale in the picture thing. I'm pretty sure he's got more clearance than a stock lift or even someone with the normal 2" SL that most of us do.
