I have a lot of after market under armor, full body skid plate and sliders. I wonder if the excess weight would contribute to the low mileage?

Absolutely. Sliders, skids, full diaper Genies.... it all adds up.

Shoot me a PM. I have some suggestions for you.

If you can't stand it any more, you can always sell it.

When Alice finishes school I think we are going to ad a high mpg car to the stable. Our VW bus is ok, but, no heat or air conditioner...(painful in the AZ summers)

Ah, geesh fellas. Let's just get to the source, ol' Doc Brown himself: "No, no, no. This sucker's electrical, but I need a nuclear reaction to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity I need."

So didn't he have Mr Fusion in the third one...then why would they need the train to push it? That was the train one, right?

For as much as I loved my 2000 X the speed really killed my MPG, but it has a lot of low end power.
The ride quality and lack of MPG killed it once it became my wifes car and I took her corolla since I drove so far to work.

I run a 265x75x16 and I get away with 23 mpg town and around 25 mpg on the highway.
That is almost unbelieveable:Wow1: , we bought an 01 new that now has 190K. The best we've ever got was 18-19. The poor mileage is justified in my mind b/c the only mechanical failure ever has been the fuel pump.:) edit: please don't discuss miles per tank, it makes me want to kill people and then hurt them:)

How could I sell it?

It is so pretty, er, I mean tough and I love the way guys check out the rig with my winch, sliders and all :Wow1: :Wow1: and THEN scratch their heads as a mom with a baby gets out of this thing :av-7:

Classic!

I got the best mileage in mine when drafting semi's across the country, but that probably doesn't help.

Today I found myself behind a semi and was wishing I had a Grapple attached to my winch so I could shoot it at the semi and then just coast as I was pulled behind it.... WHEEEEEEE

This is not Moody; this is his brother-in-law using his computer. I am in the forum under KevX02. I am the proud owner of a 2002 Xterra, and I love it. I would be willing to bet if you do a lot of standard maintenance your mileage will improve. I don’t know about its history but simple things like changing your gas filter, running more aggressive oil and oil filter, new wires and plugs, K&N air filter, CAT Back exhaust (which is pricy I know) and changing you PCV valve will help a lot. I personally drive like a grandpa around town and that saves me a ton of gas as well. I run a 265x75x16 and I get away with 23 mpg town and around 25 mpg on the highway. It's a lot of work but it probably needs to be done anyway.

Hmmm.. FlyingWen has the K&N FIPK, Calmini Headers and Exhaust, the PVC is about 10k old, and haven't touched the fuel filter yet...

Your real problem is that on the freeway your speed and mileage are not accurate due to the increased tire size. Also when the tire size is increased the gearing should also be changed (neither the Taco nor the X have been regeared) so this means that the trucks are not running at the optimum rpms for the speed traveled, and therefore decreases the fuel economy. We have discussed this before when I got new tires.

I think you just need to order us some matching front ARB lockers and some gears and throw them under the Tree for Christmas. Then around new years we'll have a gear party and install them ;)

Damn, that would be one fine Xmas.

Wouldn't the lockers and new gears provide additional "safety" for the family? :D

Oh no.. not the "safety" word again!

I heard enough about "SAFETY" when Wil was begging for his Safety Snorkel!

I did a test run w/my trailer(1200 lbs) down to Myrtle beach and back, mainly back roads, and i received about 22 MPG. Only went 55-60. I have changed to Royal Purple in Eng.,trans,x-fer and rear end. The trans made the biggest difference in perceived drivability as far as foot on the gas. I also took the wife out to Vegas to get married(Bonnie Springs actually if anyone knows the old west town out there), I live in Fayetteville NC. Took I40 to 95 in Nevada them 50 leaving Carson City to I70 and back here. Dad got me hooked on keeping track of mileage on trips. But anyway I received 19.2MPG. Most of the speeds was appx. 70. Losts of different country as far as flats and mountains are concerned so no cheating with going down hill with the wind at my back.

I have a 2002 4WD with a manual. It's still stock so all the mods most everyone else does are probably trade offs for more off roadability.
Compromise another dirty 4 letter word?

We are actually in the process of switching to Royal Purple in our vehicles since we sells it.

I am really glad to hear that it has helped on your gas mileage! Whoo Hooo

I made it to 279 on ONE tank!!!

Yep.

My gas light comes on when I have about a 1/4 tank left. Does everyone's light come on that early or is it just my freaky X?
