Yakima gutter mounts, 2nd Gen: What size?

Hey guys,

I want to remove the fairly useless stock rack all together and get Yakima gutter mounts. I already have Yakima crossbars on the truck, mounted to the stock rack. Beside being a little weak, this setup is tall. I would like the cross bars to be as close to the roof as possible. Yakima only offers two sizes, the standard 1A and the Highrise, a 1A with a 3 1/2in extension. I've measured and I believe the standard will fit, but I thought I would double check to see if anyone on here has run a similar setup.

EDIT: Ok, just found where you can enter your vehicle in the Yakima website (duh) and if I enter "naked roof" for factory options, meaning no factory rack, the standard 1A came up.

So kinda a useless post so far, but I have a second question. Has anyone ever removed the factory rack? I am afraid I have to remove the headliner, but I don't really want to!

I am ordering these Friday, so in a couple weeks I will update with photos of how close they get the bars to the roof.

I just did this.

1A towers fit and the bars are close to the roof, but I haven't measured. I have now measured the distance from roof to crossbar...about 1 and 1/4 inches in the front above B pillar and only about a 1/2 inch at the rear about mid way through sliding rear windows (it was getting dark). This is in the middle of the bar and there is a bit of a crown so there is a greater distance closer to the towers, but not much. I did not need to remove the head liner, just a large Phillips head screwdriver.
