Yet another shovel/axe holder

Greetings,
Since I was unable to find one for sale that would fit the bill for my particular want of a tool carrier that would mount to my truck rack. I made one. I welded up some 1 1/2" x 1/4" flat bar then drilled and tapped some holes for the quick clamps and the conduit clamps I used to hold the thing on. Had it powder coated, bolted the thing on with some stainless bolts, and viola the results:

With tools mounted:

Without....

And one of the backside showing the clamps:

It's really sturdy and the quickclamps hold the tools really well. I need to get a small diameter cable lock to secure them still but all in all I am really happy with how it turned out.
Oh and as an aside does anyone have a good source for some kind of a shovel blade cover? The shovel doesn't rest on the rack tubes, but I think there may be enough flex in the quickclamps to allow it to hit the rack tube on rough roads. I think some kind of rubber cover would be good to keep from mangling the finish on the rack.

Thanks for looking.

I saw some shovels with that...
They were for forestry/smokejumpers so they didn't get injured.
Don't remember the website. Sorry. They came with the new shovel, not an accessory part.
Google and ye shall find.

You know when the first pic pulled up, for just a moment, I thought you had mounted the worlds largest shovel on your blue pickup!

Matt, That's pretty funny. after looking at the picture again I can kinda see it. The Blue one is my Dad's Tundra. My truck is just a wee Ranger.

JRH, Cool I will have to go a googling now that I have confirmation that such a thing exists

Looks great! I have a bunch of Quick Fist Clamps on my truck.

You might want to think about turning it around, that way if you are in a collision they will not become projectiles.

As far as the shovel guard, you could use some automotive door trim, or just some rubber tubing.

Looks good. The only beef i have with quickfist clamps is sun damage. And i say that as a user of them. Over time they will get loose and not hold as well. They will stretch to the last step and then after that they're as tight as they'll get. I think they're better off used for interior solutions.
