Yipao, the working Jeep of Colombia

My memory from the 1960s in neighboring Ecuador was that the Series Land Rover was more common than the Jeep.

Willy's jeeps were still made in colombia until 1999 !

There's a carnival here where they load them up to do wheelies -it was on local TV but I missed where

80 series 2004 is the latest one I've seen for sale to date- but maybe later

So these weren't just army surplus items. Local production would explain why they are abundant in one country, but not the neighbor. The Isuzu Trooper was being assembled in Ecuador under the chevy label years before it was imported into the USA.

I took my laptop over to my dads place and made him translate for me, he said it is a local production. Their love of jeeps is not unlike our own it would seem, their parade is like a jamboree of sorts, if you have a yipao your in no matter how beat up it is. This one guy said he got it from his dad and his dad said to never sell it...sounds like some CJ7 owners I know. The guy on the street in the beginning said the roads are so tough you just got to have a jeep. My dad thought it was funny they use the word jepero like vaquero:costumed-smiley-007
I for one think that if the platform is that popular, then they should have helper springs sold on every street corner the way those guys load that thing up!:Wow1: Thy even need a cj6 or cj8 platform, some wheelbase would do them good:sombrero:

the production up until the 90's would explain alot to, i was going to say man those things look a heck of a lot better than most of the old cj2a's you find here in the US! wonder what their specs are...

thanks for sharing.

That clip of all the people riding in the back and the Willys turning gave me the "willys" I swear it seems about to tip over
