Zarges boxes for broke people?

Found some super simple, cheaper, but really useful cases! All at Home Depot. Rigid.

They lock together. Have weatherproofing lid gaskets, seem super sturdy, all with some different common sizes available! I think I might try this route instead of my action packers!

Vertical walls. Durable. Lots of great pros. Dont see many cons!!!

Husky made some as well but I think the Rigid were better.

dang, nobody liked those Rigid boxes?

I went to the Depot and measured the height myself. I’m considering the medium sized one as an alternative to the 8 gallon Rubbermaid that I planned to use in the Jeep. It will nicely fit in the space I’ve planned between my cargo shelf and the top of my drawer module. The straight sides and increased volume might be the deciding factor.

Stay tuned, I’m waiting to see if there will be a Father’s Day sale price.

I bought these Swisslink storage boxes. They have 3 sizes, although only like sizes can stack. They're about half the price of a Alu-box or Zarges. Free shipping to boot. I can tell you they're very nice. I've felt Alu-Boxes before and the Alu-box is definitely more stout but these aren't too far behind. These are weaker and I can stand on them but you can feel the top give a little. I'm only 140lbs. I went ahead and built some top plates for them with 1/4 plywood and truck lined it. That made it much more stable and reassuring to stand on and I have full confidence that I won't break them. Latches are nice and close tightly. It has a rubber bead around it so it won't let dirt, water, dust in. The handles are nice, spring loaded, and support the weight of a full box. I think they're a good, viable and cheaper alternative to Alu-box or Zarges and a much better option than those UK or Germany Ebay box

Do you recall what you paid for those? was it all together or separate?

I thought I'd bring up the two definite downsides to my Zarges case...and, presumably, any other brand of bare aluminium case:
1. Hard objects carried within make noise if they rattle against the inside walls of the cases. Not an issue for many, but for a vehicle with a single interior space(4Runner for me) precautions must be taken in the placement of the items in the case.
2. The aluminium on the inside forms a thin, dull, grey coating that begins to rub off on the contents within. The grey stuff can be wiped down, but eventually comes back and apparently will self-generate forever.

Those look like the best poly boxes I have seen. Way better that the last ones I had.
I’ve been using them since. Love them. Good handles. Great to strap down. They lock together. Then I use the small handles to bungee other items to it. Super handy. Then the inside! Lots of room. Weather resistant for sure. Proof, not sure. Haven’t tested. I am really happy with them.
One tip: when buying, inspect well. Had to exchange 2. Quality control was off that day lol. The gasket wasn’t right. And a handle wasn’t right.

For those that have the Zarges or alubox or similar, what are the advantages of those over surplus military boxes like those used for medical supplies? Just color or something more?

I do like those Rigid boxes.. I came across them last fall, though I only bought 2 of the open top ones back then. Before that I was using milk crates to hold stuff under my cargo shelf but was never happy with the blue. I was just going to replace them with black milk crates, but found these and like the larger (wider) size better.

I still use Action Packers too, and have used them for 7-8 years now. I don't trust them on the roof rack but inside vehicles and in my trailer, they've been great. We got a great deal on them when we got them, and I honestly have never had any concerns with the 'lost space'.

I have actually pulled the shelf out to build drawers, but still plan to carry two of the Action Packers on top of the drawers.
