Zero DS now EPA-certified

The street-legal Zero DS electric dual sport motorcycle has been tested and certified by EPA. This makes buyers of the DS eligible for a 10% federal tax credit, and a deduction for state sales tax paid. This is worth about $1000 off the $9950 price of the DS. The legislation that created the credit will expire at the end of 2009.

A few states, including California, offer credits for purchase of an electric motorcycle, so you may be eligible for additional savings.

The DS has a top speed of 55 mph, and a range of about 50 miles on a charge. It takes 4 hours or less to recharge through a standard 110V outlet. So you conceivably could ride 50 miles to work, recharge while at work, and ride home.

The DS's electric motor produces its full torque from a standstill, so no low gears are needed. The DS has no clutch or transmission.

The Zero DS is offered only through the company's web site, http://www.zeromotorcycles.com

Hmm,

Now that is interesting.. Wonder what the 'out the door' price would be to someone in CA after the incentives...

Just reviving an old thread instead of starting a new one...

I saw these Zeros at a shop today and thought they looked pretty sweet, especially the dual sport model. Anybody try one out yet? The dealer said I could test drive one of the demo models but it was raining.

a 50 mile range is pretty limited.

If you run out of juice, you wont be able to bum some gas from any one.

Not sure I see the application for an electric adventure bike just yet

You know an interesting byproduct of the electric motor that I just thought of. Altitude. The motor will put out the same power at sea level as it will in Flagstaff or on Mosquito Pass - pretty cool.

I am loving the Zeero. I am actually leaving on a trip with it this weekend. We will bring the J8 along to charge.

How long is the battery life before recycle? And I bet they are spendy to buy a new replacement. Let us know how the real life testing goes
