Just stumbled onto this little gem: Zip-tie tire traction aids.

Has anyone seen them or better yet used them? This looks like one of the worst ideas I have ever seen for mud or snow emergency recovery.

I have trac-grabbers and sometimes even they feel flimsy, I don't see these working beyond one revolution of the wheel, or at all.

Interesting. Zip ties have been the dirt bag mountain biker's solution to hard pack and ice for years. Really only IMO gaining true bliss with the rise of disk brakes. With rim brakes you had to avoid slopes.

I could see them getting a small car out of snow pack in a parking lot at really low speed. Of course if you run decent snow tires on a 2wd you probably have just as good a chance. These are mostly going to be found in walmart ("As seen onTV aisle")for their shoppers vehicles that have ************ tires to begin with.

It would be interesting to give a set a try some of those zip ties are pretty damn strong. That bar going across might just give enough bite to get a vehicle out of a snow bank. I sure wouldnt depend on them going over loveland pass in a snowstorm.

Ah, don't be so negative. Those would for sure get a little car or SUV out of a wet grassy field, or in an emergency, through a snowstorm to a hotel. At least you wouldn't be stuck on the side of the road freezing and starving to death.

I wouldn't run them on my plow truck, but they're designed to get people out of a jam without having to carry 20 lbs of chains, not to last all winter while you thrash your garbage with reckless abandon... Seems like a good idea to me, and I bet they hold up just fine. Modern plastics are simply amazing!
