Zombie Modifications

This was my old front end.

I have been making some new mods for the upcoming Zombie apocalypse. I ditched my home made front bumper in favor of this one from Smittybuilt. The old design allowed Zombies to accumulate on the front of the jeep. With this stinger design they should slip quietly to the side. I know stingers are not very ‘expo’ish but the safety of my family must come first.

I also made a custom winch plate. It is ¼’ plate with a 3 lip bent on the front. I used a plasma to taper the front and sides to allow a perfect fit with the new bumper.

I installed the official logos. My jeep is Unit 1, My kayak is Unit 4, My buddies jeep and Rhino are Units 2 &3

Lastly if aliens attack with a shrink ray gun, I want to be ready, so I prepared this scale model.

BigAl, how do you like the Powerplant? I found one on Craigslist, 1 year old, for $900 neg. I called he said yep, near new, used two or three times and he is willing to take a reasonable offer. I hopped in the truck thinking I may get a $700-750 winch.

When I got there it took two of us to carry it from the garage to the tailgate. When I suggested we hook up some battery cables to test it he finally came clean and said it was burned up. I was so p!ssed off. I didn't care whether it was a solenoid or motor even at if I could drive away with it for $250, the guy was a scumbag.

I wasted 2 hours and drove 36 miles. I haven't looked at Powerplants the same way, deservedly or not...all thanks to a dishonest jerk. I really need to hear opinions from a trustworthy source.

Thanks, I found the sticker online and then had them printed locally with sequential unit numbers

I have had good luck with mine, with one exception. My thermal sensor went bad. The winch would not work. It turns out the that he early modle powerplants used a nickle thermal switch, that fails often. Warn replaced it free of charge. It is so common, they have a kit with instructions. The newer switch does not have the same issue. It is an easy fix, like 10 minutes. They also sell the replacement switch for ~$10. Your buddy with the "burned up" winch may just have a bad thermal switch, but I wouldn't tell him.

The winch itself has always been strong enough for anything i've done, I've never stalled it. The compressor works as good or better than the other vechicle based units (york, etc.) I've seen. It is not like a shop compressor , but it gets the job done.

Thanks for the feedback. FWIW, not my buddy. I hope somebody picked up that winch for a song and it was only a thermal switch.

Now imagine what a large keg you would need to articulate your real Jeep!

Sounds like the makings for one heck of a party:costumed-smiley-007

The RC Car is my buddies, I thought of getting one, but they are as much a money pit as a real jeep. We had just finished putting on a new aluminum 4 link long arm kit and driveshafts:snorkel:

lol my jeep is going to be ready for the zombie attack, but im debating whether i should put the zombie response team sticker, a hummer recovery crew sticker, or the jeep "trail rated" emblem. (all would go on the fender) and its a 99 XJ...i do want to get the Grand Cherokee "Overlanding" emblem and place it on the rear hatch right under the JEEP emblem :)
