Auxiliary light setups

Old school, yes, but they work and didn't cost an arm and a leg. 2 wide beams on the outside, 2 spots on the inside. Also I don't drive with my fog lights on except in inclement weather:

How much light do you really need anyway? Our eyes are very adaptable, most of what people are using are WAYYY over kill, they just make our pupils constrict wasting so much light while blinding anyone in front of them.

Not sure if that was directed at me... I'm just looking for something to cast some light further down the trail than my two 55W driving lights + headlights do.
Typically you would not use bright close-in lights together with long-range lights for the very reason of pupil constriction (and anyone who uses such lights in front of others (especially on a public roadway) is a ********** tool who needs his own lights punched out).

the comment was not directed to anyone in particular...you all do what you want....

How much we need is one thing. How much we want is another. I'm sorry, I really need a 12 step program when it comes to lights.

Yeah I'm looking for a bar maybe around 20" or so. 6000°K is just ridiculous in a LED (could be tolerable maybe in a HID, but definitely not for me in a LED).

Thanks for the info about serviceability. I guess I'll poke around some, see what I find (I know these things float around on Ebay a lot too).

.

Take their 6000k with a grain of salt. Like I said, its a very close match to my 5000k halogen head lights. You can tell a. Difference but no where near 6000k blue in my personally opinion. A buddy has 55w hid headlights in 6000k...far more blue than my led bar from them.

Sorry verdesardog, didn't mean to come off as harsh, just that I know well common courtesy means dimming bright lights around others. I know there are some out there don't have that courtesy and no doubt they certainly can get on one's nerves, so I can see where you're coming from.

Must be you have the blue-colored bulbs.

I figure on just being prepared is all (I've got some experience working with SMD chips, swapping LEDs shouldn't be outside of my ability). If the light isn't too bad as is, then certainly all the better, would save me the $50-100 in LEDs anyway, depending what I get and how many there are.

Appreciate all the info you've given.
I'll post up here if I get something.

I saw a picture of a baja design onyx bar. 15" I think vs a dual row 40" for rigid..baja has a VERY please color in the 4300k range I would say! While rigid looks 6000k blue-ish.

I'm running Piaa h4 star whites which are way whiter/yellower than the super plasma gtx I had before. I also have/had just not on my rig currently a set of piaa fog lights with their plasma ion yellow, which was deep, probably 3000k but at the edges was more like 6000k which I hated. My lights are far from blue, I can't stand it...tends to give me a headache. Same with my led bar if left on for to long. This is a big reason why I had yellow lens for my led pods I ran all the time.
It's also the reason why my rock lights I got are amber vs white. The amber actually is a warm white..not so much amber. I got them off pirate4x4.

Here's a comparison of the piaa bulbs..I'm assuming piaa did it. My head lights are about the 3rd pic over. Not "extreme white" but not yellow either. My plasmas were more that "extreme" white/almost blue and sucked to look at for long periods.

Ill hunt up that baja vs rigid picture. If you can get the output in that color range them I'm in with you, much prefer it! If you can ill send you my bar for the work if your open to it! That would be AWSOME!

EXIT: scroll through here to see the onyx light up..i love its output.

BD's LEDs are 5000K. That's certainly better than some, but still not ideal, given an LED's spectral limitations. They're also too ri¢h for me too (especially if I'm gonna gut LEDs out of them).

Odd how the other one actually looks greenish (I think the LED's blue spike is fooling their camera's auto-color-correction setting it's so bad lol :Wow1: )

Very true. You let me know if you end up getting a light and gutting it with different LEDs. If your confident and willing I may be the Guinea pig..if your willing!

Never had an issue, runs fine in nevada deserts in the summer as well as all over baja in extreme conditions. The 24 valve never runs hot.
