Want to buy a Land Rover/ Range Rover

Brakes: The supercharged versions of both models come with oversized Brembo brakes, and are expensive. But if standard, the cost is same as any other car, plus $25 for replacement sensors.

Oil: Less than most cars, due to service periodicity, although personally I change the tranny and diff fluid much earlier than spec. There is nothing unique about oil changes compared to standard Chevy, except the filter which is the entire pan.

Windshield: If it has cold weather package, the windshield has thousands of tiny wires embedded the entire window to near-instantly defrost or defog it. I don't remember the cost, but I hit my $500 deductible...

These vehicles feel and drive completely differently, with the RRS being much smaller and sportier. Give consideration to the tailgate designs as well.

When you say 2010 is best, would you steer clear of the 2006 - 2009 because they are not as reliable or that the 2010 (new motor) is worth the wait?

I don't know the nuances of the model years. I am looking for either an LR4 for the wife or a range rover. They are different. I have an LR3 that can handle our 7 passenger needs so I was thinking about making the Range Rover our family get around and road trip car. That way I can up the tire size and add rods to the LR3 (I only drive 3 miles to work ) and remove it from our main family car role.

Reliability and maintenance costs between the Range Rover and Sport will be about the same. With either vehicle, 2010+ is the best way to go. As I stated earlier though, they are very different vehicles. You won't know which is right for you until you drive each.

There is nothing wrong with the 2006-2009 Range Rover, but the improvements they made for the 2010 model year are very nice (5.0 V8, upgraded technology, updated interior). If someone were strictly shopping best value, a 2008-ish Range Rover would win hands down.

X2. Any truck with the Jag engine and trans is a solid vehicle. AKA trucks with the 6 speed auto and newer.

The RR will be bigger. So if you have many kids and all of their stuff (I am not a father but I have deduced that kids take up a lot of space) that this will be beneficial. However if vehicle size is an issue (take for example, inner city driving in a big city with tiny roads, tiny parking spots, and parking decks) then the RRS would be favorable.

If it was me, I'd be rolling in a Big Daddy RR over a RRS. There is a reason everyone down here refers to it as "Big Daddy".

Honestly, it feels more like a true Range Rover. The Sport is fairly firm and is designed as a drivers car. The Range Rover has a softer ride, lower effort steering, and much different perspective from the drivers seat going down the road. The amount of cabin space in the Range Rover from the shoulders up is huge compared to the Sport. It is not really usable space, but it is "luxury space". Like having 12 foot ceilings and huge windows in your home.

i drove the big rover for a while it was my friends 08 when he wasnt in the state , its amazing machine in every way , no suv drives like that , in general range rover ride has been unique since the first classic rolled out, ALSO THE SEATING POSITION BIG ROVER IS DIFFERENT THAN THE SPORT i would buy the big one also, but they are more expensive compare to rrs , MARK I KNOW U WANT THAT FOR YOURSELF, THE BIG ROVER IS THE WAY TO GO, , DONT PUT THAT ON HER , HAHA

I own a Range Rover Supercharge (not Sport), an LR3 HSE with HD, and a DII HSE with CDL. As far a comfort driving around town and log trips the RRSC is the best, for over-landing the LR3, for doing trails and rock crawling the DII. Just my 2 cents.

I disagree that a RR Sport couldn't make a great vehicle based the first intended purpose of the vehicle the OP stated: being an around town vehicle for his wife. If maximum interior room isn't your number one priority and you're looking for a comfortable vehicle that will spend most of it's like driving around town and on the highway, I think the sport is great. I love driving my wife's Sport around town. Would it be my first choice vehicle for a 2 month safari in Africa? No. But that's not what this thread is about.

I have spent a decent amount of time in a 2012 RR Supercharged and it's an amazing vehicle all around. But, I think you would be making a mistake if you didn't do a thorough test drive of both a full sized RR and a RR Sport, given your original goals for the vehicle.

I test drove a RR SC OMG it was sweet!!! But since i have the F250 and the H1 i feel we have the larger SUV covered .

I think the wife will like the smaller RRS because of the trunk. I did not like and thought it would be hard for her to move the cover back to hide stuff in the RR SC. Plus the rrs sc should be cheaper and she does like sporty

- 2010 murdered out RRS SC with big black wheels and red brake calipers. All the factory stuff that is not black would be painted flat black and then 20% tint all the way around.

How do baby seats work for the back? plenty of room?
