No, no modifications needed for either set of lights, they drop right in and are plug and play. There are no 'buckets' to speak of, they replace the entire sealed beam unit. Just an outer ring that bolts them into the header panel area. Takes literally 4-5 minutes to install, and a phillips screwdriver.

The results, as posted by Bill. No before shots since we had stock XJ data from my Daily Driver XJ. WE had a lot of lights to test that night, and didnt want to feed the mosquitos anymore than we had to.

Hey Stumpy.... Have you done any of the round trucklites in a CJ/TJ type vehicle yet? I have a pair coming for my Scrambler and would like to know what to expect. Fitment and wiring needs etc...

Jeepdreamer, check out the "where is Stumpy" thread in the South East Expedition Society forum in the regional areas of expo. We did a TJ with round JW Speakers, and also a JK with round trucklites. There is a large headlight shootout thread started by Hilldweller on Jeep Forum that would have some info for you also.

Thanks Beardus!

If Not Now When?
Just a quick update,

Just installed a net for my rear cargo section, I was hoping a tailgate net for pick-up trucks would work...so I just bought one from Oreillys for 22 bucks.

Works great! This is mostly to keep the dogs out of my daughters face when they are in the rear. They can get a little overwhelming, especially since my kids face is usually coated in a food of some sort.

What did you use to hook this net in there? I really like the idea!

The 7" round shoot-out starts with the older model Phase 6 Trucklites; I had actually started with Phase 5s but they were so bad I never wrote them up.
The Phase 7 lights are a world apart. You'll have no problem with them in a TJ, even with a bad alternator.

They are made to the old SAE standard though and I don't believe you'll find them all that legal in Germany; are you running with US registration?
There is a JW Speaker varient that's ECE.

CJs for me...

Thanks HD, Mine are going in my 83 Scrambler if I can ever find some retaining rings to replace the rusty mesh headlight screens. :Wow1: I don't know what generation these TL lights are.. do you?

Those are either 5 or 6 ---- the most durable headlights ever made.

...and some of the absolute worst photometry ever made...

But they're good lights for a dedicated trail rig, farm equipment, M1 Abrams tank. You have to try very very hard to kill them.
But you'll also want supplemental lighting to see where you're going.

Since May, 1st 2012 the new generation J.W.Speaker 7" headlights is shipping. Now called 8700 Evolution, available in chrome and in black. And even more important for the fellow jeeper: They are available with a front positioning light so you don´t have to find a place to install some additional FP if your local laws require you to have one (like here in Germany). AND - the lights are much more compact than the older 8700. Which means that you don´t have to cut and relocate any sensors behind the lights in a JK any more.

All members living in europe can contact me anytime at jl@nakatanenga.de for a EP forum rebate on any J.W.Speaker product - 8700 Evo, the 6045 fogs, a set of white signal lights all around for your Defender with DRL, etc. etc. Got some very high quality relais cabling sets avaible as well for headlights, driving lights, foglights, DRL via your headlights etc.

So I just got done reading this entire thread while having a coffee and cigar on my front porch. All I can say is Holy ******* amazing work, craftsmanship, ideas! Love how the XJ has turned out. Any new updates? (yes I know I'm bringing back a yr old thread) I'm new to the expo forum and want to turn my 98 XJ into something similar minus the exo-cage.

The Teal ********** is morphing into a tube buggy these days and his DD is becoming an ExPolicious overlanding platform.

Where is Stumpy these days? It's camping season again...

Does that mean he might be putting together another build thread for said DD? I'm going to be running a 4.5" Clayton LA kit this winter and running 33's.

He likes to wrench; I don't think he'll ever be "done" with any build ever.
Build threads though? That's another matter.
He's a Daddy now and that cuts down on the amount of time he can spend pecking away on a keyboard.
