You said two $10 apps made your Garmin obsolete, I imagine one was Back Country Navigator (BCN), so what was the other one? Also, how does this perform on streets and highways? I know you have to load BCN with the topo maps for off road areas you are going, do you also have to load it for the general streets and highways, or is that data already in there?

I did. The wide 285's did indeed provide a more stable ride on the pavement. It feels slightly more susceptible to being pushed around in crosswinds. Potholes tend to feel less stable as well, although I would guess this is mostly due to the stiffer E-rating rather than any true loss of stability. Off pavement, no difference. There wasn't any perceived loss of stability during any side loading. I've been happy with my decision to switch and have zero interest in changing sizes again. The 255 sizing feels like the right fit on this truck.
Thanks, Rick. I'm glad you got to see the transition. The engineering you've done to make the RTT work for your needs is impressive and similarly well-thought out.
That's correct, BCN with a lot of map downloading. It helps being able to transfer files from external memory like I can do on this tablet due to the file sizes.
The second app is CoPilot. A feature rich on road/offline GPS program. Download the North American map pack (~2GB size requirement) and don't look back. It has been excellent and superior to my Garmin in absolutely every way. The only thing my Garmin does better is blue chart data for the boat, and of course... there's an app for that too.

How do you like the layout inside your flip pac so far? Are you happy with the bench height and center aisle room?
I like your level wrap around layout, and the toilet! I don't have my flip pac yet, but I get to think about it for 3 more months untill it gets here! I'm thinking of a a 21" or 22" bench height, and hoping that gives me enough storage and a comfortable seat. My center isle will only be 20" wide and I hope thats not too narrow.

I have been completely satisfied with the layout in the back. The only change that I can see myself making is a way to tie the operation both the latches of the forward box together. Currently to access the front box from the road side via the windoor, (for my CO2) I have to step onto the slider and crawl halfway through to operate the second latch to open the box. Not hard for me to do, but also not the most ergonomical. The isle room is more than adequate. Me and my wife could function just fine with a narrower isle, but the dogs need every inch of that space, so as long as you don't have a large and an extra-large dog to tote around, you should be fine with 20". The only problem you may run into is turning around to crawl back out when you don't have the top deployed if you go too narrow. Just off the top of my head, I think the bench height is 21.75" and provides a comfortable height. My padded Goal Zero Boulder 30 Case doubles as a nice cushion when sitting long term.

Sorry, missed your post, p nut.
No wheel spacers and when it's flat I typically see 17mpg on the freeway. Around town in San Diego stop and go is 14-15 mpg.
