They fit the bill for us totally...Don't want full sized. Sort of want Jeep'ish dimensions. so 4 door short box is perfect. As for the ecodiesel, they do NOT get similar milage to the collie diesels, not around here anyways, and 2 already lost their engines in the small town we live in, so I will pass on the dodge.

the z71 will be fine, I am putting the bajakits King resi setup on it so zr2 will pale in comparison.

Doesn't VM Motori build both the engines for the GM and Ram?

GM's gets the 2.8 A 428, and the Ram gets the 3.0 A 630, yeah?

GM tuned it for the American market and slapped the "Duramax" name on it, yes?

The reliability thing is probably all about nothing on the normally aspirated engines. No way I would own a gas or diesel turbo out of warranty though. At the end of the day, fuel economy isn't too much of a concern, yearly fuel cost between 20 and 30 mpg, isn't all that much. (even with me being so cheap, I can deal with that difference).

Don't have the need to haul people, do like extra cabs for gear storage, XCSB works quite well for me...really like the Ford with the flat floor and 170º(?) opening rear doors...be great for tossing MX bags back there. The Ram Regular Cabs have a decent amount of room behind the seat...not sure if it is big enough for a gear bag. Tundras are, not putting up with 13-15 mpg...so they are off the list.

Tacoma SR 4 banger...you can probably milk 25 hwy out of it...be an ok daily...but loaded down and pulling my moto trailer with a couple bikes...don't think it will work for weekend/multi-week trip vehicle. It does have the manual trans. To get a manual with a V6, I have to spend $32K to get that...well might as well buy a fullsize with a V8 at that price...

Grrrrr....no one really builds what I want. Hate spend money on stuff I only "kinda" like. maybe drop a LS into a 2nd gen Tacoma... ;)

Yep, gotta make compromises. I really wanted to stick with Toyota, but everyone I know is getting 15MPG. Highway. No way. Even with the larger 38 gallon tank available now, the range is just average. I was hesitant to go with a domestic product, and still makes me nervous, but ownership has been good so far. Figure worst case scenario, if it starts giving me trouble, I'll just trade it in on something else--not the end of the world. You ought to at least go test drive some this weekend. :)

How about something with actual Jeep dimensions?

Guessing the Canyon would probably be more comfortable on a day-to-day basis. But that would be a cool vehicle to own.

I like the RCLB Tundras best out of all the fullsizes, since it basically has the space of an extra cab Tacoma behind the seats, and a 8' bed, I can get the dirt bike in there and close the tailgate...but that mileage no way! 20 HWY is the lowest I'll go. Oh I have driven them all, except the Ecodiesel...did drive the 5.7 Hemi...damn that things is hotrod!

Oooh...you know me...think we have discussed this a 1000 times! Always comes back full circle...nothing is going to do anything "that" much different than what I already have, why spend the money on it. Really wouldn't want to take a brand new truck in the some of the places I take my old faithful beater Tacoma.

If they do diesel and manual trans...that would be most awesome.

One rainy Sunday afternoon with nothing to do, take a moment to watch this video. In Korean, but has subtitles.

Thanks, will do...that looks interesting. Funny you posted that, I have to say good-bye to an old friend today...gets you thinking about one's own mortality. Pretty much at the point (and have been for years) where I rather spend my time and money on experiences than "stuff" as one day, time will run out.

Just cooked her a bunch of bacon for breakfast, and she is getting steak for lunch.

Frack...we are ruining the OP's thread...sorry ( I know I run my mouth too much)

Back on topic...

Yea! GM's diesel truck! Got for it dude!

Jist of the story is, an old man with a cow which has 1 yr to live goes shopping for a new cow, but hates it. Prefers his old trusty partner. Reminds me of someone..... :D

I just skimmed what it was about. Thanks for more info.

Gaaad ain't that the truth. My mom's ex-boy friend....she talked him into buying a new Trooper, but preferred the old one from the 80's...the new one just sat in the driveway. I can see that happening with me...

Ha ha...I don't mind at all. it's like sitting around a campfire with a beer (s). Thats whats great...I am not sure who makes what, but All i know that the duramax gets better milage than the ecodiesel, and from the small cross section of my local area, the duramax has better reliability as well.

I didn't know that. I thought ecodiesel was up there in the high 20's, but guess not. My brother in law had a GMC Canyon back 8 or 10 years ago. Wasn't the most reliable, but got the job done. I believe QC has improved quite a bit since then.

That's too bad. I have no interest in diesels personally, but had high hopes for the Ecodiesel.

Looks like they are averaging around 22-24, not bad, but not great either. Betcha I could get 30 out of it, my 26 mile one way work commute speed limit is 65 mph, set the cruise at 63. I schedule my day so I don't have to sit in traffic, usually I don't touch the brakes until I hit the off ramp. Wonder if anyone in town rents them, I am kinda curious.

Curious to see. But damn, its a monster of a truck. Just to big for what I want! ha ha...The jeep truck mentioned before, Again, that's not touching the collie on milage and range.

The Colorado isn't that small, about the size of 80's fullsizes. Be curious to see how the GM version of the VM diesel holds up...if they are having problems in the Ram, makes you wonder about the GM's.

According to Fuelly, the GM's aren't getting that much better fuel consumption than the Ram's.
