Tundra was twice as fast..but 17mpg was about it..f150 isn't comparable as she had 230k and a small v8..it was 13mpg and just a driver...

I plan on a full delete and a tuner for the ecodiesel..reports are it changes it almost into a raptor class with the 60hp tune..I'm going 40 and get rid of all the EGR issues others have had..so it will probably spank the tundra and reports are even BETTER economy after a tuner!

I'd love to hear how all that turns out. I've been reading that the 3.0L Ecodiesel has been experiencing some teething issues with its emissions systems. I'd love to see how that engine runs without all the added complications.

Edit: Also what is the aftermarket like for the 1500 platform? Are there bumpers, suspension kits, skid plates, ect. available in the aftermarket?

I've seen some EGR delete peeps plug em back in recently. Apparently they? Not sure who is starting to crack down on this and penalty fees are getting high.
I like the little 2.8 and dont see the point of doing all the mod stuff for power given if you want speed and or power there are some really impressive out of the box trucks today that are on a whole different planet than the little 2.8 colorado/canyon. I like the Canyon 2.8 idea because it could easily replace my Subaru giving me more load capacity, and off road capability and similar to better mileage.. The stupid Denali package would even put cooled seats in it beating out my leather limited Subaru regarding a feature I find really nice in CA.

I'm not into the 'mod for power' scene either. But the more I read up on how these emissions systems work, the more I realize I just have no inclination to deal with them. The DPF regeneration causing fuel contamination of the engine oil, the DEF needing replacement after 100k-200k (costing several thousand $), the EGR putting exhaust gases back into the engine...it seems like a lot of this stuff was designed to meet stringent emissions standards rather than to keep the engine running reliably well into 600k-800k territory. AMSOIL did a good job reviewing how some of this stuff works and affects the engine:

I could care less about rolling coal or tuning a diesel to ultra high HP levels; I just want the damn thing to last at least 500k (preferably more) without having drop a ton of coin on replacing and fixing emissions-related problems.

Current Diesel engine design talk sounds like next gen diesels will probably not have the various emissions stuff the current models have. So thats a plus.

Mercedes announced last fall putting the largest invesment in diesel engine development. The new engines have emissions systems nearly identical to the gassers. Cant recall where I read it but there was a side comment by a Cummings engineer that next gen diesels will need less or zero emissions scrubbing tech. Basically the industry sees a demand and knows that getting away from the emmisions gear with cleaner engines will be a game changer.

This would be nice..I've cleaned parts of my egr and they look like 150,000 mile gas engine valve covers!! Nasty...fresh oil is instantly contaminated..mine will get deleted soon..
