Dana 60 and GM 14 bolt are back from the driveline shop. Stuffed with 5.13 gears and ARB air lockers. Time for reassembly!

Awesome rig!!! I love mine. Ls3,6L80, vintage air. Ord everything. Best driving vehicle I own. So much smoother than the wife’s new Yukon xl.

That truck is awesome!!! Love the H2 wheels. I almost got a set of those. They look nice.

Glad to see you enjoying your Suburban with your family. Have fun!

It really feels good to keep this old truck alive and give it a second life.

Had I not bought it, the Suburban was about 1 more owner away from them extracting the last ounce of its life and sending it to the junkyard to get crushed.

Yeah but now it's gonna be too pretty to drive. 🤣

Starting to look like a truck. It fired up for the first time! Making progress.

Cold Case radiator and dual 16” fans are in as well as a Derale Transmission cooler with underbody fan.

ORD crossover steering is mocked up and ready for powder coating and new steering box is in.

Dual ARB compressors and air tank are in. The plan is to make a custom shield for the compressors to protect them and also run an ARB air filter relocation kit to keep the compressors from ingesting any water. But water would have to be about 1/3 of the way up the doors or more before that would happen.

More progress. Shield for the air tank and compressors has been mocked up and is ready for Raptor Lining.

The Warn Zeon 12000 pound winch has arrived and been test fit on the Off Road Design front bumper. We are waiting on the rear bumper to come in (hopefully this week) then both bumpers and some other small parts will go off for powder coating. I like the look of the round KC lights to give some contrast to the Suburban’s blocky good looks. 😀

There was one concession I had to make to my wife I wasn’t super happy about and that is the AMP power steps. I really wanted a set of rock sliders, but I suppose giving in on this one detail isn’t the worst thing considering how supportive my wife has been of this project.

Wiring is almost complete and a Switch Pros 8 station controller will be running things.

Upholstery has been ordered and the interior is next on the list.

Haven’t updated in a while. There have been a few changes. The front bumper is back from getting powder coated and progress has been made on wiring.

The rear bumper has come in and has also been powder coated.

Progress continues on the interior and wiring. Getting closer!

Once the truck is driving and the suspension settles I might see if the BFG 39X13.50 tire will fit. With 5.13 gears the truck should be fine. Not sure on that yet…….

I’ve been slacking on the updates. We’ve got a running and driving truck now. Matt and his crew tell me tests are going well and the 6.6 L8T runs like a boss. The first picture is of the Suburban in its natural habitat…….a gas station. 😄 Fortunately the drip underneath in the picture isn’t from the Suburban.

One of the big challenges when retrofitting a newer engine into an older truck is how to control the gears when everything is done by a switch on the shifter stalk in the newer trucks. RPM Extreme helped solve that with their tap shift mod. Now we can cycle through the gears with a push of a switch, lock the truck in 1st gear if descending a hill or manually drop it down a gear or two if going up a steep grade. RPM Extreme said they think we are the first 6.6 L8T transplant into an older truck they know of that has maintained this function.

The electric tailgate window has always been a problem on Suburbans and K5 Blazers. The goofy cable driven factory system was scrapped and a Nu-Relics gear driven actuator has been installed. This should properly fix a long standing problem on these trucks.

As you can see the ORD custom springs flex well. I briefly toyed with the idea of a BFG 39X13.50 tire, but without really cutting into the truck, the 37X12.50 was as far as we could go even with the relief cut for the front bumper. I’m happy with how it turned out.

Headliner and carpet are in. Seats are the holdup for the moment. Things should be wrapping up shortly for spring and summer roadtrips followed by Overland Expo East in October with an add on trip to the Smokey Mountains.
