Could you comment a little more on the transmission controller?

How do you like it? Does it do what it should...? any side effect to the AW4?

I have only really used it on two trips. It works flawlessly, no engine lights. Shift on the fly anytime. Does exactly what its suppose to. I would do it again in a heart beat.

Day 30 Rear bumper build

Day 30 Rear bumper build.

Here are the first few photos of my rear bumper build. It will be constructed out of 1.75OD x1.510id (0.120 Wall) DOM. I bought 35ft at 6.99 a ft. for a total of $244. I bought enough to make a swing out tire carrier...

The bumper will bolt onto the jeep in the stock location. I will also make some supports that tie into the hitch and some lower corner protection.

The bumper will not be used as a tow point but it will have to support the weight of my spare tire, two jerry cans and my highlift. I will be moving the highlift from the roof and will be replacing it with an axe.

Day 30 continued

Time for some much needed updates to this thread.

Here are some of the finished photos of the bumper.

I also added removable mud flaps, similar to the teraflex ones. No photos of them though.

Wheeling Trip

Shortly after finishing the bumper we headed back out to the mountains for a weekend of wheeling. We went with a bigger group but split off into a group of four. There were three red xjs and a tj.

Luckily I had a snorkel and was able to make it through this mud hole. This guy sucked in water and had to shut his jeep off... which then proceeded to flood the inside.

Came across this rig while wheeling... neat rig but not the smartest guys... out alone... not to mention there wasnt much of a seat/ seat belt or roll cage for the third guy in the back.

Ya not fun- I was this guy and it was a deep hole - first time I have ever sucked water . On the way home I blow the engine, the cam / connecting rod came thru the block. Still in the middle of changing the engine but because it is -20 now I am going to hold off until Feb. when I can move it to a heated garage to finish.
A snorkel is defiantly in as a upgrade. I found one that will work with the custom fenders.
Kyle - Let me know if you are coming down this way agene, the trail to falls should be a good one the river will be frozen shortly if it not already.

Yeah that was a bad day for you :( Hopefully you get it up and running soon. Are you looking at the airflow snorkel?

Awesome, I think we wont be done there for about another month... hopefully there wont be too much snow.

Sounds good! You gotta buy yourself a new jeep :p

I already acquired 2 of them... a 2dr & a 4dr... taking my time on the builds, since doing them both at the same time... also looking for a nice MJ that I can do upgrade on to the newer XJ body style... this way I'll have the complete fleet of the Cherokee/Comanche...

I've come down to it few times, where I would say I needed it.

I've seen another guy from Australia (if I remember correct) do it, but in a bit different way...

Road Trip!!!

Well I had big plans to go on a month long road trip, hitting up Utah, Colorado and much more. It was partly why I built the Xj... Well I ended up going on a smaller version of this road trip due to work... and took my friends TJ! It took us 7 days to go from Ontario --> Alberta. Checking out all the sites in the USA.

My friend started by driving to Ontario (from Alberta) to visit family. I flew over and we drove back through the USA. Probably just under 10,000km (6,000miles) total but about 5,000km (3,100miles) on the way back.

The TJ preformed well, nothing was really done ahead of time (just your basic fluid changes). We did install a flex a lite fan before leaving... which gave us some trouble but it works fine now. We had the front drive shaft give up halfway through... we had heard the "angry sparrows" prior but didnt have a chance to rebuilt it. We just took it out (in a Wyoming Walmart parking lot!) and put it in the back seat.

We hit up
Badlands National Park, South Dakota
Black Hills National Park, South Dakota
Thunder Basin National Grassland, Wyoming
Big Horn National Forest, Wyoming
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming/Montana
Glacial National Park, Montana

Here are some photos of the adventure:

Little did we know that we would be going all the way up to the top (to the snow in this first photo). This was definitely a highlight. Big thanks going out to the people at Expedition Portal for giving us the idea to check this one out. It was a couple hour drive... all the way up to 11,000 ft. Kinda out there, not to many tourists. Definitely one of my favorite highways.

a expedition rig from France we saw in Yellowstone. It was a little hard to communicate as neither of us were very fluent in french. Shortly after this we saw a Jeep JK Earthroamer... I didnt have my camera ready!

We visited AEV in Missoula, Montana. Unfortunately it was a Saturday and they were closed.

They had a couple brutes, J8's etc.

SH107890.jpg

Glacier National Park. Neat drive but way way more people than Beartooth highway... not quite as stunning either.
SH107946.jpg

Cooler roads but the mountains just don't compare with the Alberta/BC Rockies.

Awesome thread and awesome pics. I am super jelious of your location. I would dream of having a backyard like that to go wheeling in.

What else are you going to do to your Jeep?

Thanks! We try to get out as much as we can. There is so much to explore. If you are ever in the area, we can arrange a trip out :)
