    1989 Landrover Defender 110 - in Brazil

I must part ways with my beloved Landrover Defender 110 painted in zebra colors. The vehicle is fully equipped for on and off-road adventure travel. It has an interior bed, fridge, stove, sink. And exterior shower, rooftop-tent, 3 military storage boxes, 3 military fuel cans, maxtrax traction...

    Cloud storage wars

ownCloud allows a user to synchronize folder(s) on a computer with a server. Very similar to dropbox, except that the server is your own and no data is hosted on a tech company's servers. The function works very well since whenever your computer has a wifi connection then the files on your...

    Cloud storage wars

When you are traveling abroad and what access to your data on the cloud, it is probably not music or photos that you are interested in accessing on the cloud. The kind of data that will be of interest when traveling is almost always personal data.

    Cloud storage wars

I favor using a home based cloud solution, like ownCloud. You can set up it with almost any NAS that has a linux kernel. Free and 100% private. Biggest problem with branded cloud storage is that your data is in the hands of a company which can do whatever it likes with it.

    Best camping chair under $50 - $60

I do not have the feet extenders; frankly have not seen the need for them. I am 6' tall and about 180lbs. The chair is very comfortable for me. Seating is with a slightly reclined position. I've sat in this chair for 6 hours straight without issue. Without the extenders, the height of the...

    Best camping chair under $50 - $60

I absolutely love the Kermit Chair. Very small when collapsed, very strong when deployed, and good looking to boot. I have two of them and a Kermit table. The table is a bit small. http://www.kermitchair.com/

What to drive from Colorado to South America?

The ability to sleep inside the vehicle is huge advantage. I'd rank that feature far above 4x4 ability or engine power.

    but what about an FJ...

I have an FJC and a Defender 110. The FJC is not a very good overlanding vehicle because it is too small inside. It is impossible to sleep inside, which I believe is an overlanding necessity for cold, rain, and security events. The interior space cannot be configured as a live space similar to...

    Pan-American Campsite/POI List?

I have compiled a very well organized and clean data file of about 5000 camping spots in South America. The data was sourced from a variety of locations, and was also cross referenced with other sources and physically when possible. The database can be loaded directly onto your Garmin device or...

mods you wouldnt do again ...

I wanted to install a Safari Snorkel on my Defender, but i was convinced by a supplier from Buffalo that a Mantec Snorkel was just as good. I installed the Mantec Snorkel and had a bunch of engine overheating problems. I had to changed engines and when i did the mechanic noticed that there was...

How often do you really use your winch?

I've been 4x4ing for along time and i agree that a winch is very useful....the question is useful for what? weekend 4x4ing is a lot different than overland global expedition. In an overland expedition you need to keep weight to a minimum, have absolute reliabile equiptment, and absolutely...

    classic range rover diesel conversion

if you can import a International Motors 2.8L powerstroke Diesel engine from Brazil, that is the best solution. there is also a 3.0L version. It is basically the 300tdi engine bored out, longer stroke, and different injector pump. I belived there is a guy in nova scotia who was importing these...
