Picked up a vr6 and a spare head. High milage but these motor seem to be fairly stout after you do a timing belt job. I have a lot of parts to collect before I can begin to swap but its a start. Also been having a lot of fun playing with my newly inherited tacoma. Almost unstoppable in the snow...
Finally removed the prop shaft because I was getting a strange feeling in the front wheels like the VC was trying to work. Also some vibration at 35 mph. Is a used prop shaft worth much?
I plan on replacing/ rebuilding as much of the drivetrain I can afford over the winter. I plan on parking...
I've been so busy getting the track car ready that I haven't had time for the van. Hoping to have the westy top off the parts van soon so I can start cleaning and repairing the cracks. If I want to grab the front swivel seat out of it as well, do they need to be cut out? Or do they simply...
Voltage was as low as it can go because I was just melting through before. I will try a slower wire speed. I did clean the paint back, just hard to see. Was breezy outside, I will try it indoors. I've got in the habit of pulling for some reason. Our welder is really over kill for sheet metal...
Had a little time to work on one of the rust spots today. It was a little rougher then I expected... This may not be a perment fix, but will keep some mud off me while driving:smiley_drive:
This is my first attempt at any body work, and I only just learned to weld.
Also worked on a...
Wow long time since I've logged in here but now that it's warming up, camping comes too mind... van season is on its way! We're thinking of taking a short trip in may. Up to Maine or just over the boarder to Canada... Niagara Falls perhaps.
So I have a short period to get the van ready...
I call my vanagon "******** brick"..... its brown, built like a brick and well compare to other VWs I own/driven its one of the sh!ttier ones. But that's half the fun in owning it.:)
I would consider it AWD because it is permanently working but the rear wheels need to slip before the front help. Although there are after market parts to make the system work more like a typical 4wd. The syncros only have one low range gear also, not a low range box. Mine has a locking rear...
Jed, wow man, your van is amazing! Also those videos were great. I feel like they some up owning a syncro very well. I really can't wait to start camping in mine, but I have a lot of work ahead of me.
A Tdi swap would be very nice but out of my price range it seems. There is a AEB 1.8t passat...
So today I checked the front diff and trans oil, looked pretty gross. I have a small oil leak from the sender/drain plug. Feels like its been stripped out. Temporarily covered some holes I have in the front fender wells to keep some of the mud from spraying passengers. Need to weld/plate a spot...
Thanks, I replied to your message but... anyway I'll take it if I could paypal you the money? My girlfriend said she would buy me it for christmas along with some new driving lights:wings:
So I had to replace the battery and have just been trying to drive the van as much as possible to feel out...
