    Question: Cooking with cast iron

From the LODGE site: "To Soap or not to Soap... If no soap is too scary, wash with mild soapy water and dry and oil immediately. However, consider that cookware is 400ºF in 4 minutes on medium heat and is sterile at 212º F, so soap isn’t always necessary. Dishwashers, strong detergents and...

    Question: Cooking with cast iron

Well... i'm getting older, and I have a wife... but no, I tell no tales; not about soap. Since you are so dismissive, I'll take issue, but I take no offense. No offense offered, either. You're not wrong, just... dismissive. Soap does indeed cut the oil, right on through to the metal. And...

    Question: Cooking with cast iron

First: All part of the learning curve, so don't sweat it; you cannot permanently damage a good quality cast iron pan by getting it goopy. So that the first point - No Worries. That pan will outlive you ;-) Next: Good advice above, from ab1985! Hot water, if necessary a 4-hour hot soak. Plus...

JKU 1:16 Scale Model... well almost, anyway ;-) ... from Bruder of Germany

    I can't do this... Collecting, I mean; I would never stop ;-)

JKU 1:16 Scale Model... well almost, anyway ;-) ... from Bruder of Germany

Thank You :-) These are nice replicas. I usually buy (just 1!) in a larger scale than this company has available for the Jeep JKU, but Greenlight is a good option for the smaller scale.

    Battery venting questions...

Ah. This subject again. Well, give such advice as you wish. And indeed, with AGM batteries safety is greatly enhanced. But for regular lead-acid batteries? Or nonAGM SLA? Heck, even AGM's if the circumstances are right? I will simply add my own personal experience from my years as an engineer...

JKU 1:16 Scale Model... well almost, anyway ;-) ... from Bruder of Germany

It's been the larger-scale 4-door JK (JKU) that has been a problem. They seem not ever to have been recreated as a scale model, in any country, except in small (or very small) scale. I like a larger desk model of my vehicles; I've had 2 JKU's since 2008 and this is my first desk model. For the...

JKU 1:16 Scale Model... well almost, anyway ;-) ... from Bruder of Germany

Yes, it's a toy. Not a true precision scale model. But your kids can play with it and not (immediately ;-) break it, and it is pretty darn accurate! If you are familiar with Bruder Toys, you will know that they are durable, really well made, and very realistic. 1:16 Scale, about 13" long...

    Onboard washer/dryer... worth it?

Should, or Could... Some disapprove of the whole concept, and they should certainly not allow themselves such a luxury. For those "on the fence", understand that it is a luxury intensive of power, water, and space... but depending on your own personal priorities it can be a very practical...

    Fridge full time in vehicle

Too Useful to turn Off... I have an Engel 27 in my Jeep JKU... when I'm "out there". The rest of the time it sits in my home office, comfortably living the high-life as a wine fridge ;-) Set it on minimum cooling, perfect for whites and rose'. When it is time for the little bugger to go back...

    ideal tire size

I can tell you from personal experience that this is not true, unless your favorite terrain (and tire needs) are very specialized. Much has been written on this subject, but I will summarize: As you correctly point out, there are variables. But the width of a tire is not even close to the most...

    Unique sink/water idea

To use the kegs as you wish to do, but keep the system very simple and food grade, you cannot do better than a hand-pump (or foot-pump) such as can be found in Marine Supply catalogs. These systems are not as sexy as electrical pump products, so they are less prominently promoted, but many...

    Unique sink/water idea

No real technical "problems". But one important consideration: Air from an typical onboard compressor is not suitable for breathing, or any other form of internal or medical use. Look at how a Scuba compressor works, for an example of "medical grade" breathable air. Since impurities in the...

Gazell, a pop-up camper for Jeep JKU

Disappointment... Well, that kind of sums it up; not because of the product, but because I could not find the Gazell at the show. I could only attend Friday, however. So. Did anyone see it? Impressions?

Gazell, a pop-up camper for Jeep JKU

You can find the european pricing earlier in this thread; they are already expensive. My experience with import prices from Europe are all over the map; occasionally they are lower here than in the home market (tax and regulatory costs are high, and there are incentives for exporters of some...

Tent to leave up all summer

Cabelas Fine tents, the Alaknak series, but from Cabela's own website they are made in China. That is unnecessary, unless you are shopping primarily on price. Many such tents can be sourced from top quality USA tent fitters, such as David Ellis or SnowTrekker (very fine 4-season tents!), among...
