Replace transmission in LR3 or buy an LR4?

Hi all, I have a 2008 LR3 with 250k miles on it. Have rebuilt/repaired quite a bit of the vehicle, and love it. Unfortunately the transmission has started having issues that solenoids, filter, new ZF fluid didn’t fix, so I’m looking at replacing the transmission and torque converter on it. Found...

New To Us D5: Impressions and Comparisons to LR3

Thanks for the comparison. My biggest beef with the D5 is it has the same “indistinguishable egg shape” as all modern mid-sized SUV’s, there are no redeeming aesthetic design qualities, IMO. Honestly, I believe the 2008 era Rovers were the peak of practicality, ruggedness, technology, and...

    300 tdi disco build

Nice! This place has been lacking any actual “builds/restos” lately. I’m about to do the same, I have a 95 RRC LWB and found a 300 tdi/r380/1.4 LT230 drivetrain for it. I’m trying to take the “easy” route and went with motor mounts from Defenders Northwest...

Versatile off road open utility/camping trailer build

Glad it is inspiring, trailer is still working great for just about everything! Deck is 102” x 55”, and 24” high, trailer overall is about 173” x 75”. Some have commented about the axle placement, the tongue weight is significant but it’s in the right place for the zero turn or golf cart, as...

    Motorbike Overlanding vs 4 Wheels...

I wouldn’t suggest riding motorcycles on a long trip unless you all have substantial experience, it’s likely at least one person will crash and be injured. Riding in bad weather, in the dark, while tired and overloaded with gear is much different than cruising around back roads on a nice day. I...

Post pictures of your Land Rover.

There’s always the 300 tdi conversion option, that’s the route I’m going with mine. Wiring had been hacked up by the PO and then it sat for 7 years, so I didn’t feel like dealing with those issues. 300 tdi requires 12v to the fuel shut off solenoid and a trigger wire to the starter solenoid...

Another Off Road Trailer Build to Pull Behind My Jeep

Cool build, looks extremely handy for a lot of purposes. A couple things I’d recommend are some type of “mounting points” at the corners to allow accessories to be added over time. Stuff like canoe bars, a bike rack, etc. I also get why you did the continuous top rail above the tailgate from a...

Timbren axleless axle bounces around when towing

I’d agree with continuing to add tongue weight and see if it helps, totally overdo it and take a ride. I can’t even begin to raise the tongue on my trailer with the Timbren Suspension when it’s empty, and it’s an open utility trailer. Tongue weight is significantly over 200 lbs if I had to...

So, what's in your Recovery Bag?

In the vehicle all the time, fortunately it fits under the folded third row seat. ARB Snatch strap, soft shackle, several sized hard shackles, receiver shackle for other vehicle, gloves, snatch block, tree saver, hobbit shovel, 2x air hoses, air chuck/gauge, air down tool, and under hood...

    Off road trailer cover options

If that thing is only 4’ wide, you might have luck with some of the golf cart covers on Amazon. My golf cart is around 9 1/2’ long and the cover will go almost to the ground over the tires

    Texas4rnr M101 Trailer Build

Nice build! Make sure your kitchen slide doesn’t get left out in the rain, unfortunately that plywood will delaminate with moisture. If you build anything else out of wood, this stuff uses exterior rated glue and is still relatively smooth/flat, though heavier...

Wanted: Operations Manger for Overland Rentals in Denver

First half of what I was going to say, which is why it’s hard to have a small business these day, particularly with the younger generation. Somebody could be hired as a customer service rep/email person and both owners and the manager and running balls to the walls due to 1 customer running...

Timbren axleless axle bounces around when towing

How is it bouncing? Are you getting roll, sway, or hopping? What does it look like in the mirrors? I have their silent ride suspension (basically the axle-less that attaches to a standard trailer axle), and it is the smoothest towing trailer I’ve ever pulled. Mine is also the 2,000 lb springs...

    Chassis Design

People will disagree with me, but aluminum will crack over time given rough terrain (even washboard roads), and enclosed steel will rust out from the inside. Steel channel is the ideal frame material IMO, though it isn’t as light or torsionally stiff as other options.

After 8 years in a full size, moving back to a mid-size - Recommendations?

Surprisingly, with all of these answers, I haven’t seen anybody mention this one yet… For towing a camper well + fitting in a garage restriction, for a retired couple… Why not get an extended cab F-150 rather than a crew cab? Still works fine for luggage/groceries/tools out of the weather...

Versatile off road open utility/camping trailer build

Trailer use update, while I still haven’t finished it, it’s been working out awesome, for every intended purpose. Hauled a bunch of bikes up to N Georgia for 4th of July, nothing moved or came loose, and it was easy to get on/off. I also purchased a used 660 lb table saw for my cabinetry shop...

Versatile off road open utility/camping trailer build

I’m pretty pleased with it so far. #1 it does seem silent, this trailer sees dirt road/off road use and there’s nothing like squeaking/banging/jerking to kill the solitude of a nice ride through the forest. #2 it does seem to ride really soft and smooth. A lot of the time this trailer will...
