Some misinformation. Up until 2009, the manual cars had a viscous center diff with a 50/50 power split. The autos had an electronic locking diff with a 70/30 split when not locked. The autos you can wire up for a switch to get it locked when you want. However I've never found an instant yet...

I love my 07 2.5i Outback. Mild offroading and really badly maintained gravel roads are fine.

Tuner is around $389. Almost all of TQM is gone. Something about keeping a little to save on trans hard parts. It helps to not break anything when it shifts into the next gear.

Just picked this up on Monday. I think I'm going to sell the Suburban and get a Forrester... 07 2.5i Auto with 97k miles on it. She's happy, I'm happy. The selectable manual mode is a very nice feature.

The thing with a 2500 Burb from 01-06 is you get the 6.0 or 8.1 engines and neither are as fuel efficient as the 5.3. If that's OK with you then I suggest a 8.1L. Nominal hit in mileage and better power stock. You might even get it cheaper as its such a big engine. Mine has 20x10 (I think)...
