    Any tone 578 tri band

I run one in my Xterra. Nice radio. Decent power. I have mine "unlocked" via the software for GMRS/FRS freqs. I've run DMR on it both via hotspot and repeaters. It's a versatile radio in a small package. You can run APRS on it, though not sure if you get full APRS function. It can crossband...

Routing coax to the roof rack

I have a Front Runner rack on my Nissan Xterra with the fold down antenna mount. I routed mine along the roof to a KC Hilites wire hider that goes along edge of my windshield. Down into engine bay and through the firewall.

Mounting panels to overland rack: tiltable/adjustable solution?

Not my truck but looking to do something similar. I like being able to tilt it as the sun moves. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/solar-panel-roof-mount-build-with-articulating-arm.633386/

    Early 2nd gen Xterra E-Lockers

I'm coming up on 205k on my 05 Xterra Offroad MT. The only problem I've had is with side airbags going off when I was driving on a dirt road. There is a recall for that. That price seems high to me for that mileage.

High Mileage Gen II Xterra's and Frontiers

170k on my Xterra. Just repaired one of the CATs (bank 2), steering pump, and EVAP control in tank. Replaced the shocks and did a AAL on the back. Been running Mobil 1, truck runs pretty good. Was looking to dump it but will drive it into the ground at this point.

    Goal Zero Yeti 400 Experiences?

I just bought a Yeti 400 for $349 and a Boulder 30 Panel for 135 from my local Costco. Thinking of getting another panel. Taking it on a week long trip next week. Will advise how it worked out. Prices are typically better than retail, though the vendor at the store didn't have the full...

I thought the dish internet uploaded on dial up or was as slow as dial up. Would need a pretty good transmitter to upload to a sat.

FreedomPOP has a new idea for mobile data service

I've read some reports of deceptive billing practices. And a confusing use agreement (EULA) I've been eyeballing the website for a week and the prices and GB rates have changed at least twice. In my opinion, there's nothing free about it. Maybe if you use a burner/pre-paid credit card.

Feedback on Mapping/GPS setup for Expedition Travel

I use a wrist mounted Garmin Foretrex 401, a Panasonic digital camera, and Robogeo. The advantage of the wrist mounted GPS is that I don't have to undock a GPS when I dismount from my Jeep to take photos.I get a more accurate depiction of where I was standing at when the photo was taken, and I...

    Car-type GPS and topo maps?

See post 33 in this thread: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34646&page=4 I don't think you can load Delorme maps on a Garmin Nuvi though.

Need help searching for a GPS Unit.

Yes, you can download the track log and save waypoints aka "Favorites" on Nuvi. You can also upload routes and waypoints. And load Garmin Topo onto the memory.

    Garage storage set up

I hang mine from the tires on the hooks upside down. It's supposed to help lubricate the shocks on my mountain bikes by getting the oil to the seals. But then it may also put bubbles in my hydraulic disc brakes. So I can't win either way. I have 6 bikes hanging in close proximity to each other...

    GPS- What are you using?

I can't say if all Nuvis do it. I'm sure the 500's on up can do it. I'm on a 760 that's a couple years old. I just wish they spit out UTM coordinates.

Google Android: turn by turn navigation for free

I've had my Droid for a week and some change. I did a drive with the wife to drop the kids off at the grandparents in Solvang. So I rode shotgun and played with my phone. There is a bit of lag with the navigation icon. It skips and pauses and isn't as smooth as a typical GPS unit. It also...

    GPS- What are you using?

Yes, you can save waypoints and tracks on the Nuvi's memory card. You use Mapsource or GPS software to input it. The waypoints are called "Favorites" on mine. You can also input lat/long coordinates rather quickly via the touchscreen. You just have to switch the routing function to offroad to...

    GPS- What are you using?

I can load TOPO maps onto my Nuvi 760 and switch between Streetmaps and TOPO maps via the menu settings. You store the maps on an SD card. I use it quite often for offroad trips. My only gripe is that it won't do UTM.
