Worth the risk? Is there a risk?

"The CDL sends power to both front and rear axles with a 50/50 split" actually this is only true when it is unlocked, when it is locked it allows 100% of available torque to go to either the front or rear.

Worth the risk? Is there a risk?

The oil pump issue is just as common on 04's as 03 DII. People are now swapping 4.0 engines in to replace the 4.6 because there are not many good 4.6 out there.

Worth the risk? Is there a risk?

Most 2001's have the transfercase with the CDL they just lack the shifter needed to engage the CDL. IMHO 2001 just might be the best year for the DII as they had very few problems other then the front driveshafts and the ABS three amigoes issues that all DII's suffer from. 03-04 might sound...

Hard Core Series IIA 109 across the Americas.

everything about this is cool...I hope to watch this trip. I am with michael, first thing I thought was they were getting the heat out from under the floor. At slow speeds for hours and hours floor heat really bites. very cool!

    Strange ABS behavior + another

the first issue is caused by a ABS sensor that is either unseated or has been heavily coated in grease or gear oil. start by making sure all 4 sensors are fully seated in their bores. In the end the best fix is to pull the ABS fuse and go it without the ABS. The ABS systems in these models has...

    95 RRC LWB question

The BW makes for heavier steering and more torque converter wind up then the LT230. The LT just makes the RRC drive free and easy. My wife is a small lady and she drove a D1 for 100k and then a DII for 100K and then the a 95RRC. She felt the RRC was the most work to drive. I swapped the BW...

    95 RRC LWB question

One thing I have to add... dont replace anything in the BW transfercase!! toss those things out(after you harvest the cross pinion)and put a LT230 out of a disco in the truck. the RRC drive so much better with a LT230 then they ever did with a BW. I have done a number of these swaps now and...

    Overland Journal: Discovery I, 5-speed

I ran this set up for a long time before going to what I run now, what a great set up! If I started over on a D1 I would go back to this set up.

    95 RRC LWB question

not a bad price for a LWB if it is clean. 95 is the best year for a RRC. in the end you are making a commitment to a body so get the cleanest one you can afford and then from there everything else can be fixed.

    Disco Conflicted

I disagree with this..my 2001 was one of the most issue free vehichles I have ever owned and we put a ton of miles on it. yes the 2004 gets alot of praise but as they age they sure are showing a bad habit for going through head gaskets IMHO. the 4.0 was in no way slow for the the way a DII...

    Lug nutz and an idea

This is not a new idea and has been done with success a number of times. This has been very popular with the 44" tire guys for 2 decades. The method most use is running a larger diameter of tube sleaved over the factory bars so that one tube slides over the other. Then a cross drilled hole to...

99 D1 overheating up hill only.

Simple...you can do a better faster job. by putting the truck nose up and running the heat you can very quickly get all the air out of the whole cooling circuit. Its not that the factory method dosent work but by simple doing it with the nose of the truck a bit up hill the process just works...

    Evidentiary standard for tech

I think you are thinking about this backwards... Adding lower gears ( higher numericle) at the differentials will increase the torque load on the driveshafts and transfercase. This is why portals protect the drivetrain. Because the hubs have an additional gear reduction the ring and pinions...

    Evidentiary standard for tech

His ego is going to be all hurt when he finds out that guys were using 1.003 ratio LT230's years ago. I almost hate to break it to him that his ratios he listed for the old trucks were just total dream land BS as well.
