has anyone tried to build their own fllip_ pac

Over on the full size forum someone did that with a Suburban and used a VW Westfalia top for the popup part. It looked amazing http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/128696-My-1989-Suburban-with-a-Westfalia-top-grafted-into-it-also-dual-360-swivel-seats Almost a Suburban Sportsmobile.

    New BFG All Terrain Design?

After about 2,000 miles on road and maybe 250 off pavement, they're still round, no punctures, still no where near worn out. :) The new ones are 265/75/16, old XTX tires were 265/70/16 and I've noticed about a .5 mpg decrease commuting, 1.2 mpg drop in hwy mileage (adjusted for the larger tire).

    New BFG All Terrain Design?

I had a chance to get out and get the new KO2s dirty this weekend. I didn't notice any highway hum from them, a little on some secondary roads, it seems to depend on the road more than the speed. Did about 50 miles of forest service roads, mostly wet and muddy. No problems in the 3-4" of mud in...

    New BFG All Terrain Design?

Mine are 265/75/16 and the front drivers side tire, measured from the ground with the full weight on it, is pretty much 30.5, right where you measured the AT2. I have no doubt they would be at the mfg spec of 31.6 if I jacked it up off the ground and measured.

Wearing like iron, look practically brand new - they're amazing! ;)

    New BFG All Terrain Design?

I had a set installed this morning, so far they've performed flawlessly...on the 15 miles of dry pavement and 1/2 mile of damp gravel driveway they've been on. :) They definitely feel stiffer than the crappy Wild Country XTX tires they replaced with less feeling of the tire rolling over on...

    Ram Power Wagon

The Powerwagon has more than just lockers, it has the push button swaybar disconnect, factory winch, factory 33" tires. It doesn't have as much capacity as a 2500 Ram, but do you need that capacity? The AEV Ram is very cool, but will probably cost twice what a Powerwagon goes for. I like their...

That looks pretty good! Different too, usually you see the rockers sprayed and the top left painted.

Best value Suburban as an all arounder

No it wasn't you could get a Sub or Tahoe with a tailgate until 1999. They're not as common as the barn doors, but I see them for sale often.

Stock rigs are capable of so much more than just driving to the mall. Not the most challenging rock pile ever conquered but my son loved driving up it.

    88 Automatic Hub ???

If it ain't broke why fix it? I've had auto locking hubs on 5 GMs starting with a 1985 S-15 Jimmy through a 2000 Suburban and never had a problem with the hubs on any of them, neither has my uncle who has been buying Suburbans ever 2 or 3 years (used car people love him) for over 30 years. I'm...

Getting Stuck & How You Got Out? Need Some Help!

I like that idea, kind of a light duty comealong with a much longer operating range. I see the 3" and 4" versions have a working load limit of 5,000+ lbs, it may not be fast but I'd think it could come in very handy.

Tires: GoodYear Adventure with Kevlar vs. ******** Cepek Trail Country

I put about 30,000 miles on a set of Hankook ATM on my Tahoe. They did fine on gravel roads but were nothing special in the snow. Worse than BFG AT and worse than the Wild Country XTX I have on now. The XTX has the 'severe snow' rated snowflake if that matters to you.

Chevy Tahoe (GMT-400 version) vs FJ80... thoughts

The Tahoe is a great rig for taking the family camping, comfortable, big enough to haul your gear and tow. I think you'll have to go with a 2000+ to have a tow rating over 7500 lbs, but even the old style is rated for quite a bit more than the Cherokee. I don't think there has ever been a 3/4...

That would do it, but unfortunately this rig still needs to get into the parking garage at work and even stock the antenna hits the max height bar going in. Lift, bigger tires and lockers will go on either the Silverado or on a 3/4 ton Suburban that hasn't been purchased yet. :)

why not as many 96-99 suburbans?

Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it. My 94 Silverado 2500 7.4L only gets max 12 mpg hwy with the stock 30" and very very un-aggressive street tires. I'd expect maybe 9 or 10 with 33's - which I'll hopefully be finding out before to long when I put them on my truck. As a not exact comparison my 99...
