Yup! It was Ken's toy before I took it on :) He did some good work to it! Bostig, AA Trans, all of the S.African kit. Really - a lot of cool work to it. I look forward to taking to the next level! Right now i am just sorting out a fuel issue. Was on the road last week and felt like I dropped...

1987 VW Syncro 4x4 High Top Getaway Camper

Depends on how you drive it, but typically between 12-14 L/100km. Sometimes better, sometimes worse (especially when fully loaded and pushing mountain passes) lol :)

Syncronauts, what are the biggest concerns when buying??

Just saying... not a Syncro :) I think most people choose the VW Vanagons / Syncros over other vans due to their unsurpassed internal layout and usability. Not to discredit the Delicas as being fantastic vehicles, but they don't come close in that category. I have had 6 people in my van on a...

1987 VW Syncro 4x4 High Top Getaway Camper

I searched high and low for my perfect expedition vehicle and after countless days of hunting, I found it. "Twinkie" as he's affectionately known as, is a 1987 Syncro with the factory Getaway high top conversion. This conversion added crucial storage for extended expeditions as well as...

Introducing "Twinkie". My Prepped Syncro 4x4 High Top.

Hi David, Congrats on the Syncro purchase! They are beautiful vans to work on. To get the top that I have, you will have to transport yourself back to 1989 unfortunately, as that's when they made these as a factory build. I don't believe there are any tops floating around anymore. There are a...

Introducing "Twinkie". My Prepped Syncro 4x4 High Top.

Next project is a non vehicle one. But I plan to have another van / expedition vehicle of some sort next year. The next big trip I am planning is to Norway, to work and travel with a fellow adventure photographer and friend of mine. Until then, just short trips into the mountains of BC. :)...

Introducing "Twinkie". My Prepped Syncro 4x4 High Top.

Thanks guys! It is "almost" like a 16" Syncro, but not quite. The 16" jokers were factory - and even rarer! They have some additional overbuilt suspension components as well. Maybe my next van? :) This one is running larger 15" wheels (std is 14) and has a lot of other modifications. I...

Syncronauts, what are the biggest concerns when buying??

You are going to be looking at all the same things as you would a regular 2x4 van, with a few exceptions. The VC's should be checked as well as lockers if they are in place. Look for vans which already have some of the expensive upgrades done if possible, especially engine conversions (if you...

I wanted to share some of the photos and a quick report of a trip that I wrapped up the past month. What started out as a desire to take a short trip to the west coast, turned into the purchase of my dream vehicle and 6 months of travel to seek the best mountain biking, rock climbing - and to...

Introducing "Twinkie". My Prepped Syncro 4x4 High Top.

I have been watching these threads for awhile now and figure that I may as well chime in and introduce myself and my vehicle since I have now wrapped up my first trip, which was a 6 month journey through the southwest to central USA for rock climbing and mountain biking. Twink, as he's...
