07 tundra build

That is pretty bad ***. Love the setup. I really like the front and rear bumpers. I would love to pick up an actual winch bumper eventually, the Fab 4 winch mount kills my approach angle. It is hard to justify paying over 1200 for a winch bumper. It seems everything for my tundra is double the price of things for my YJ. Sliders for my truck were 500+ but for my jeep it was 250ish.

I am also interested in a dual batt. setup. any thoughts? info? We camp a lot and I am trying to not kill my batt. Thought about going to a small generator.

Aftermarket support for the Tundra is significantly less than that for a Jeep. Unfortunately, most of the equipment for my Tundra was one-off custom jobs (Sliders, Baja Rack, Expedition One bumpers, cabinets...) :(. I have been a Toyota guy all of my life and I always will be ~ ( 1989 4x4 pickup = 225,000 miles / Toyota sent me a refund check for the head gasket issue 2 YEARS after it happened for the full amount). My Tundra is my 5th one. I am willing to concede the lack of aftermarket support in exchange for my Toyota's reliability...

The dual battery system that I got was the IBS dual battery system. I have not had any issues with this system, and I highly recommend it. I bought mine from Wil Kuhns at Sierra Expeditions. Here is some information about it: http://ibs-tech.ch/en/products/dual-battery-system.html.
.
Hope this helps.

If it were me, I would either go for something cheaper but decent in the mean time, like Bilstein 5100's (which are what I have), and save for some good coilovers like Camburg,King, etc. Or just do it right from the get go with the Coilover's. The 5100's ride pretty decent for me offroad, especially for the price.

Does anyone here disconnect their sway bar while offloading? Never wheeled a IFS so I only assume it helps with articulation. It does with my jeep.

I have completely removed my sway bar. But i am running an ICON suspension.

Nice start btw. Love my Tundra

I may pull the sway bar and see how it rides. Just don't want to have a ton of body roll. Will keep you posted on how it is with just the front spacers I have.

I have played with a trailer before... Here is my kayak trailer set up for on road camping. I have thought about swapping the axle, wheels and tires and start converting it to off-road.

Any good ideas for off road trailer axles?

How's the ride with the tent over the cab? Sorry, if you've answered this... How many does your tent sleep?

I've considered a large RTT for over the bed but I'd have to have a custom rack built to accommodate my retractable tonneau. So, I've considered a setup similar to yours. I'm somewhat concerned about longish bumpy washboard type roads.

Thanks Greenyota,

What part of TN you from? Any good suggestions for UCA's?
Here is a photo from work today, not the best but it give an idea of where I am at. I have never wheeled anything IFS or long wheel base so I am sure there will be a learning curve.

It sleeps 3. Not had any issues with traveling with it. It stays up there even daily driving right now. The rack system stays put even on rough roads. Aside from being a little difficult to set up because of truck height it is fine up there. I do admit it looks a little funny.

Little Toyota trip this weekend

So me and two buddies went camping with our families this weekend and I finally tested the tundra on some decent trails.
I was super impressed what it could do with just a lift and some tires.
We had a T100, Tacoma and my Tundra.
This was at 5 mile flats in East TN.

Thanks Hank,

I feel like the truck could have done much more, I guess coming from Jeeps I expected it to struggle being IFS, but with no Sway bar on it really flexed well and the traction was excellent. I need to figure out all the nanny systems. I would really like to see the real benefits of ATRAC.

Thanks for all the help so far. I also realized I need at least a front skid. I bumped the winch mount a few times. it made me worry about my front diff and other exposed items. I may look for a stock one.

ANy suggestions.

Also I have a Military generator trailer for dirt cheap in good shape. We plan on building an off road trailer and the RTT is going to move from over the cab to the trailer.

Would love to try driving my 08 DC part of Trans american trail. Is it doable? some state trails might not be favorable for the tundra bec of the long wheelbase.

I plan to put skids sliders 3 inch lift rear lockers and a winch ( as finances allows me) if i will turn it into expo rig. It sits on 33' duratracs stock right now.

I have a well built 80 but i still want to ride the tundra overland( if i can)
