I'm really hoping the prices fall on the 100s now that the 200 is out. I really want to get the wife into one... I probably shouldn't have sold the LX, but I did end up with the 55 because of it!!

I'll definitely be looking at the 200's in 5-7 years :chowtime:

as an import, I don't think our horrible exchange rate is helping matters on the 200 price.
It is not out of line w/ the prices of luxo suv's nowadays but it would have been nice to keep it closer to last year... they do pack a lot more technology into the 200 tho

I am just a mere peasant, prices like that are shocking! I just don't get it, I guess.

My 00 LC stickered at 55k. In Jan of 05, I paid 23k for it with 80k miles on it. I now have 130k miles and I suspect it will be around for a long time yet.

They are luxury vehicles and depreciate rapidly. The LC's that are 4-5 years old are a great used car value. You really get a nice vehicle with tons of useful life left in them.

I doubt I will ever buy myself another new vehicle.

That is a good deal.

I do wonder why people buy brand new vehicles, you take such a hit just driving off the lot. I know few people that can pay cash for such a vehicle. Most people lease them, it is more of an image thing than anything.

Petersen's 4wheel & Offroad has made the 08' Land Cruiser the 4x4 of the year! Just got the magazine in the mail.

!

:jumping:

they should rename it "4wheel & not offroad" for how much dirt those are gonna see.

it just cost me 700+ bucks for the 01 lx's driver mirror replacement. (doh!) id love to see the tab for an 08's.

Don't hold your breath... I'd put money within a couple years they are out on the trail, built. The 100 was he same exact way... as was the 80. Give them a couple years, some aftermarket support, and they will be out on the trail.

sure someones gonna... but i notice the platform is getting.... closer to the earth, with decreased angles to boot. LC's are getting to be less an less a version of a cushy super truck, and more and more a 4wd station wagon in design. notice the 200's will not have a work truck version like the 100's. i dont see this one as being the best used suv for off road duty anymore. i think the nissan x-terras/pathfinders will take that mantle.

Never seen a "work truck version" 100 Series, so I can comment there. I know they had a cloth/vinyl version overseas, but I've never seen one here in the US. If you put a 100 next to a 200, they are not that far off, in fact there are some aspects of the 200 which I would prefer as a wheeler. Add a moderate lift, bumpers and sliders, and you have a great overland rig. Nobody claimed they would be a rockcrawler, but the 100 never was either. I have dozens and dozens of customers that wheel 100's, some of which had them since 98/99' when they too were $65-70k vehicles, they started building them just a couple of years later. Alot of transplants (post 40/60/80) owners have migrated to the 100 Series as their 80's climbed up in the miles or were rolled, etc. They purchased 4-5 year old models and build them... followed by plenty of use. Not a doubt in my mind I will see the same growing trend with the new 200 Series.

You would think for $70K, it would at least have a diesel.

You'll see them on the trail in a few years when regular Joes can afford used ones.

i use a 100. just lost my lovely mirror. :) its one step removed from the 80. anything you can do in 100, you can do better in an 80. except go to the mall. i havent driven a 200 yet, so maybe i wrong. but i doubt it. i think its twice removed.

gibralter (sp) got strippers with rear doors and solid front axles. thats a worktruck. there will be no 200 version of that anywhere.

With as much as they cost, they should be. What happen to a cost effective LC the 3rd world buys. I dont see some port african nation plunking down 70K for a rescue vehicle.

For me, the rise of new vehicle cost is eye opening, just look at the big diesels from Detroit. Yee ow! I wouldn't mind having one, but, man, that is a heck of a lot of haircuts! I am on the middle upper end of haircut cost....$40 for a cut.

That is how I view my purchases...."hmmm, now...how many cuts do I need to do, to buy so and so?"

You might be surprised. The Land Cruiser is not cheap anywhere. Even the stripped down versions of the 70 and 100 series are quite expensive. A basic HZJ78 5 speed, white, vinyl floor and bench seat, 3-seat troopie is about $50,000 in Australia. The reason they are so popular is that they last for 20 years, so the cost is amortized over a long period.

People spend $40 for a haircut!!! Now THAT is insane:wings:

I used to be able to get mine cut at the State Prison for $1. Then I upgraded to the Russian Guy at $6. Now I'm up to $12 at a place in Vegas. This is all in the last 10 years.

Outrageous I tell you:D

And yes, we will start seeing some modded 200 series trucks on the trail in a few years, I imagine.
