anything you can do in 100, you can do better in an 80. except go to the mall.
I disagree. The 100 has a lot more pep. It tows a trailer a lot better than an 80. And it goes down the pavement so much more smoothly and is much quieter. And you can load kids so much easier in a 100. The legroom is much better in the backseat. I can also pass the gas pump a few more times without stopping, and yes I'm running the same 315 size as I did on my 80. So there are a lot of things a 100 can do better. That being said, in an off highway environment I still prefer an 80.
I actually think I would prefer a 200 over a 100. Everything I've read about the newer ATRAC and the downhill descent control etc... has said that it is phenomenal. But since I haven't won the lottery I won't find that out real soon. Heck, I've never even seen one yet. I won't even "qualify" for a test drive for 6-7 years.
Like many of you I scoffed at the price of the 100 series and never thought I could afford one. Well, they are a lot cheaper now. And in many ways a better value than some used 80s. 80s are becoming a victim of their own success. Try finding one without 150k on the clock. And much as I loved my 80 and it never left me stranded, it did require a lot of expensive maintenance. 100s will never be rock crawlers with the stock suspension set up. So people who want a family hauler rock crawler are not going to be sucking up 100s which makes their prices lower. Compare a 98 100 price to a 97 80.
