I am guessing it is running worse without the running boards?

I thought it was red tow hooks what made a 4x4 run better.

Recently re-watched Dante's Peak. Kind of a sucky movie despite James Bond and Sarah Connors being in it, but great trucks in that movie

Awesome build, love an old square body. Keep fighting the good fight on the engine woes,
problems like those are less than enjoyable until they are solved.

pulled the transfer case over the last couple evenings, I kind of expected to see more of a sign of fluid in between the case and adapter considering there was about a gallon of trans fluid in the transfer case. I didnt see any visible damage to the seal but the rubber was pretty hard. Picked up the needed seals last night, going to replace the input and both outputs since its out.
