Ok, so I have done a major cleaning up, fluid change/check, and tune-up.....what else do I need to think about? It runs very solid and seems to need nothing but paint at this point, which won't be until the Spring. Any ideas or stuff I missed? I may think about adding a roof rack, but just not sure yet. Maybe a bumber with a jack and extra 5 gallon guzzle can?

Well, small update and question. I have added the towing mirrors. I'll et some pics up of those this weekend. M question is this. Does anyone know about the intake heater hose fitting that tends to corrode and leak? Mine is leaking a tiny bit and was doing so when I bought it. PO told me there is some repair kit from the dealer, but I am NOT going to the dealer if I can help it. Apparently removing it can be a big PITA. So, 454 TBI guys? What is this thing? Thanks!

it that the weird plastic push on dohickey connector thing? When I had the TBI intake on my old 454 it had one and was stuck like chuck, was a PITA. Might try NAPA, they might have one, but I have no idea how you get it apart?

Yeah, those stupid fittings break all the time. Get rid of the quick connect and add a regular hose fitting. Here is the tool you will need if it breaks, which is probably will. I haven’t seen one yet that hasn’t broke when trying to remove it. You can buy Lisle tools through most any parts stores. Good luck!

Thanks for the info Larry. I am going to get it ordered next week. I work for Fastenal, so I have plenty of access to brass pipe fittings. I will replace it with something much better than what is in there currently.

Well now I am just trying to decide what else I need to do to this thing. We took it up to Julian yesterday on its first family road trip and had an amazing day. The truck is so comfortable and solid. It has a ton of room for all of our family/baby gear, not to mention the inside is really nice and clean. :sombrero: I filled up when i got back to town and calculated 12.7 mpg for the first tank of fuel!! :Wow1: Whaaaaat?!!! I was hoping for 10 at best, but I have been driving like a grandpa. No complaints there.

The only other thing is that there must be an exhaust leak. We definitely smelled like exhaust after we got home, sorta like when you ride a motorcycle all day and have that smell on you. It doesn't sound like there is one, but there has to be somewhere so I'll have that looked at this week as well.

Nothing like taking the whole family and gear out in comfort with room to spare! Glad to hear it is workin out well for yoy.

Thanks! It's been fun up to this point. I like taking something that was neglected and putting some TLC into it. I'll have to come up with a new list since the old one is mostly crossed off. I need to take the blower motor assembly apart. I think it may have a rat's nest or two that are making fluttering noises.

Ok, a small update. I am doing the front brakes this weekend. I am guessing, like all other brake jobs, they will be a fairly easy thing to do. Have impact wrench, will travel :sombrero:

Any input on this would be good. The doohickey intake fitting is not leaking like the PO thought, so I will leave that for next month. This is my daily driver and only vehicle other than my 3-speed Giant beach cruiser. I have to take projects one at a time for the present and ones that shoudl only take a a day or weekend.

I'll post some photos up for those interested gear-heads!!

That intake fitting is basically pot metal and will probably just fall apart when you try to unscrew it. I tried several different tools to remove the remaining portion, but ended up having to make four cuts, just until I hit the threads, then break it out, piece by piece. Autozone actually has a steel replacement piece or you can use a brass barbed fitting.

I plan on using a brass barbed fitting. I work for an industrial company and we have these really cool screw extractors. I should be able to use one of those. This truck is easy to work on! I am loving it. Thanks for the info though. I have heard that fitting is a real PITA!!

Small update...took out all of the spark plugs out to check engine conditions. The PO said he did a full tune up right before I picked it up. He used Ac Delco plugs, so that is good...and...they all look excellent!! I was pretty happy with that. I cleaned them off on my bench grinder and put them back in. So far I get 10 mpg regularly and 12 if I drive it like a gramps, which is very hard to do in my area if you don't want to get run over. I'll be replacing the head unit with an iPod friendly one, added new rear speaker boxes, and retinted the rear hatch window. All in all, I have been blessed.

I am now in the market for a 1st or 2nd gen Trooper as a second vehicle for the wife and a little better mpg DD for us as a family. That'll be a new thread for later! Stay tuned.

Mr BBslider, I am glad that your initial problems about the site are all forgotten and you have had the chance to experience the cool people here. As for your rig, what can I say? That machine is clean!:Wow1: I am looking forward to seeing what you will do with that rig, and remember that even a simple brake job requires pics, with the mandatory cold beer:beer: at your side! Keep up the good work and lets see how that sweet `Burb´turns out....
