i've been on mallcrawlin.

i can't decided what to do for a rear axle. the 35c will most likely die. i'm going to upgrade the front with tube incerts and stronger shafts. or get one off a XJ with a D44 rear and HP D30 front.

decisions, decisions.

well, i really haven't done much to it lately. tonight i worked on the headlights. i couldn't see crap even with the silverstar light bulbs i installed the other day. anyway

i bought a headlight restore kit made by Turtle Wax at WalMart. the stupid kit actually worked. it has four grades of sandpaper that you use on the light, then some polishing compound and a sealer. Not bad for $8.95.

well today was the day i have been dreading. my radiator had been leaking since i stuck a new radiator cap on it.

I finally went and bought a new one today and stuck it in after work.

i'd like to take the engineer out that designed that whole set up and beat them until they can't design anything ever again.

i cut my hands up horribly. i also now only have half a pinky finger on my left hand (figuratively speaking). damn that hurt.

i got it all back in and hooked up. its working great and is not leaking.

i did not take any pictures. sorry. it wasn't that exciting.

I also had the pleasure of replacing the radiator in my 98 5.2 this last week.

Some of the design is decent but the rest SUCKED. Who in their right mind designs a cooling system with no ability to bleed air from the highest point in the system? Took forever to get the air out, of course its about 105 right now so that didn't help either. The tranny cooler lines were stuck and destroyed getting the old one out. So I used regular fittings and new hose to replace them making it easier to do fixes later and add an external cooler. During the affair I also replaced the thermostat, upper hose, and upper outlet as they also needed replaced.

I'm not sure exactly how much I'll be getting for my old radiator. I took it apart and tossed the plastic ends. Cleaned the core and will be going to the scrap yard to recoop a little aluminum money.

the long road to no where.

all it all. it was mostly gravel roads and some rougher two tracks.

we traveled for about 200 miles and used about 12 gallons of fuel.

the jeep does great. the only down fall is the lack of space. but i am working on building a roof rack for it. we can't sleep in it because its to small.

just so you know you have to switch the input shaft from your 249 to the 242 or 231. They are different lengths between the V8 and I6. other than that, it's a straight bolt up.

I got a zj and love it, but cooling is an issue on my 95. I'm about to put in a full alluminum radiator and a very large trans cooler with fan setup once i figure out where to mount the sucker. Oh and for bleeding your system. an easy way to bleed the cooling system is to open one of the evaporator core lines that run on top of the passenger side block. then you can squeeze and release the upper radiator hose to manually pump out the air. It should get pretty much everything. The last thing i would do is button everything up and leave the cap open on the radiator. run the motor and keep a hose in the radiator and let it keep burping until good.

good luck with it. I'm going with the 3.5" rubicon superflex kit. lots of good reviews but make sure you get bilsteins to smoothen the ride.

well, i have not updated this in a very long time.

the jeep has been dead for awhile.

it has not been running in about 2 months now.

I have replaced the following to get it running again. i think everything died at once and i have been chasing problem after problem.

REPLACED:
computer
distributor cap and rotor
ignition coil
spark plugs
plug wires
crank position sensor
intake air temp sensor

cleaned the throttle body really good.
throttle body gasket

today i finally found the final problem with this thing running right. the intake manifold gasket is leaking really bad. i finally got the jeep running enough to hear it leaking. so after two hours of tearing down the top end, the rear cork gasket is pretty much gone.:victory:

i am so happy to finally find the damn problem.

hopefully tomorrow it'll be running. it really sucks living in an apartment complex without a garage. oh-well after college is finished, i'll have a house again.

Fun job isnt it.. Now would be the time to swap out the oil pressure sender. It often gets broken when unscrewing the EGR tube. It's best done after the intake is dropped back down and EGR tight.

Customers 95, i have to do the wifes ZJ as well.

i will never understand in this day and age of DuPont, why the hell they are still making cork gaskets.

i just finished pressure washing the intake clean. scraped all the old gasket material off. reinstalled the gasket on the bottom intake plate. its going back together.
